  1. @ yardbird: she just said to me on im "okay its working now and scanning" gave her the link again to this forum
  2. @ yardbird Thank you Hmm maybe I wasn't clear. I am all registered. Do I need to do anything else? Am I all set and protected now?
  3. @ yardbird. Load the keys? Do you mean registering it, or do you mean something else? Is there anything else that I need to do?
  4. @ yardbird: I did all of that except the download. Should I uninstall, use the cleaner, re-install, or just leave it the way it is? It seems to be working find and is running smoothly as far as I can tell. Edit: Restarted, seems fine.
  5. I just took the plunge and purchased the full version of Malwarebytes Is there anything that I should know? The controls don't look much different than the free version... am I missing something? Also, if I bought a new computer, would I need to buy it again or can I uninstall it from the old computer and put it on the new one?
  6. @ yardbird, Just sent it, asking her to wait. she already went.
  7. @ yardbird: All I know is what I pasted, she can't remember. Giving her this link! Thanks
  8. I'm on IM with her and this is what she told me: "I went to the site, I downloaded it like it said. Then when I clicked finish so that it would open up the program my laptop immediately shut down on me and when it restarted I went and clicked on the program and it came up with an error screen and wouldn't work so I uninstalled it" Any ideas what happened/what I should tell her? Unfortunately she doesn't have any AV on her computer... I keep telling her to get something. I hope malware/a virus isn't the reason. Oh, and if it matters, as far as I know she is running Vista.
  9. @ Exile: I"ll get to work on my Adobe updates, etc... (Edit: Thats done! three hours later here I am . Everything seems fine. add/remove programs I have something called Adobe update Manager, should I keep this? Oh, now its not showing up in my add/remove. I got rid of adobe air and adobe.com. Couldn't find shockwave to add/remove, but I do see Macromedia Flash Player in my add/remove. It appears that the Adobe Flash comes from macromedia (saw that pathfile when I downloaded flash. Hmm should I uninstall the macromedia in my add/remove? I can screen shot it for you if that helps). And finally buy MBAM Pro Edit: (CHECK! That's done) Since that all needs to be done. Hate to sit at the computer all afternoon on my day off, but, its gotta be done sometime and it won't do itself! I doubt it will take all afternoon anyway And maybe get to the InstallShield, otherwise I can do that tomorrow. Computer is still being much faster by the way! Was a little laggy loading (taskbar froze for a second, well not really froze but just hesitated) but yeah it seems fine. Things are loading well. AVG, the Internet, the sound, Pidgin since I am using it now, and NOW MBam Pro and the clock/calendar are the only things showing in the taskbar right now. Pidgin installed well, and is not hesitating or anything. He hasn't used the computer yet since we fixed it, but I told him to sit at it next time he turns it on instead of doing something else while waiting (like we both used to do when turning it on). I also told him about how you helped me with the Internet issue. I made the file, but I haven't tried it yet. When I get off the computer later on, I am going to shut of the Internet, run an AVG scan (it takes 2-3 hours so I only do it once or twice or sometimes three times a week, usually on my day off and then leave it running in the morning when we aren't using the computer), and then check on it later on, turn on the Internet. If it doesn't work, I'll give the file its first workout! Another edit: The computer seems to still be booting up fine. I restarted after registering MBAM and it still loaded up fine. Firefox hesitated a little still. Other than that, its all good! I think I'll actually want to use the computer more now perhaps. For two reasons: One, its faster. I have to admit I was also avoiding it because it was slow, haha. And the other reason, now that I have MBAM pro installed, I feel safer online
  10. Miekemoes and Exile both recommended Pidgin to me for my messengers, so today I downloaded it and installed it I like it so far but I have a few questions about it if anyone can help First off, I was just chatting and was idle for a few minutes and this happened: (3:34:35 PM) (mysreenname) <AUTO-REPLY> : I'm not here right now (3:34:35 PM) Unable to send message: Not logged in Did I get logged out? Because when I went back and typed, it was fine. Is there a way that I can make this not happen? EDIT: I figured out the privacy issue! Also, on aim, I have it set to ONLY my friends that I have added can IM me. Do these settings I have and others transfer over or is there a way I can do it in Pidgin? On yahoo, I have my name set as my real name (first only) and I'd like to change it back to just my sn showing up, but I suppose I can just log into the yahoo application itself (after logging out of Pidgin) and change that there. I think that's it for now. The program is still a little strange to me but I am usually pretty good at figuring things out.
  11. @ AdvancedSetup: Thank you I have IE8 Already, and as far as I know I am up to date on Microsoft. I already use AVG Internet Security Suite, so should I just not do Avira or? How do I do the disable except for trusted in Java? My husband for example, the other day went to a site to calculate tires for his new truck and Java was used, so wouldn't things like that not work if I do that? I plan to add on NoScript and AdBlockPlus as soon as I can I plan to buy MBAM Pro soon too. I just had been waiting on it because the computer was slow and I wanted to get that taken care of before I added on anything else. I'm going to buy it soon <<EDIT: I now have MBAM Pro I am updating my Adobe right now. I ALWAYS use Firefox unless manually checking for microsoft updates or if I am getting a DL from the microsoft site that I can't get with Firefox. What are warez? and pron?
  12. @ AdvancedSetup: True that! I haven't actually added any myself, but I checked on them the other day and there's a bunch. Mostly flash and stuff. see attchd. Edit: Did a new print screen of my add ons now that I have updated Adobe Flash and Reader.
  13. Okay, that's good Okay, sweet Is program updates part of InstallShield do you know? I see that in the control panel and it looks similar (the icon). Ah, I bet that's it. Sure! If you could help me with Firefox that would be fabulous. Okay, thanks! Good to know Good night and talk to you later! Thanks again SO much.
  14. Hey thanks for looking that up for me Would it hurt to just wait until tomorrow or when I can get to it? Def. by Friday night I can. Is it okay to remove this thing (installshield) from my computer? I know its not harmful. Apparently it updates software. I think it got on the computer when my husband downloaded/installed games on the computer several years ago now. RogueSpear, Black Thorn, etc... And thank you again SO much for helping me with this! The computer booted up pretty quickly! My husband had better be happy haha. Firefox still took a little while to open but other than that things are much better. And, I'll try out the ideas for the internet issue tomorrow too. Can I just launch that notepad file instead of doing the disable/enable thing or do I need to do that too?
  15. K, good to know. thanks for checking for me again Ugh, installshield I blocked it permanently on my firewall a few months back because I didn't' know what it was. I hit block and it kept popping up and I hit block permanently still came up so I restarted after that and it hasn't popped up since. i dunno if it was a good idea to do that or not. I took a screen shot of it.
  16. Unfortunately I can't help with the lag problem, but, may I ask why you haven't updated to Service Pack 3 yet?
  17. Thanks After that I am going to get rid of the viewpoint thing, limewire, and my old aim just for good measure since I need to do those things anyway, restart, and then I am going to bed. I updated to aim 6 but the old one didn't go away. I have pretty much decided to go with Pidgin but will keep the other messengers around a couple of weeks until I am good with Pidgin like Miekemoes suggested Can I still scan with spybot even though I disabled the teatimer? Attached is the folder.
  18. @ screen. One of my favorite shows too Hmm I know right! House finally hit rock bottom I can't wait to see the new season too!
  19. You are amazing! As far as I can tell, it seems MUCH faster. I mean wow!! He should be quite happy now Hopefully he won't grumble anymore about how its a POS and how I messed it up I don't mind that its faster now either Hmmm probably just the paranoia in me, mainly concerned about possibly disabling AVG, but, if I ran autoruns for you one more time, and posted the folder, would you be able to double-check for me to make sure nothing is gone that shouldn't be? Also, spybot isn't showing up in the taskbar anymore, I assume that that is normal? It's still protecting my browser, right? and I can still update and scan with it, correct?
  20. Thanks I'll disable it, restart, and report back to you. Then time for bed. I had a deer walk in front of me but thankfully I wasn't too close and was able to slow down and nothing happened. heh, sorry, just had to get it off my chest
  21. Thanks a million I did not. Should I do that now? Oh, a question I thought of to ask you about that: sometimes there are teatimer updates when you update SpyBot, should I just not update teatimer then? or would I still download those updates?
  22. Alright Exile, here you go: (I moved the other two files that I had made for your originally with autoruns into another folder, so this should be the correct folder.)
  23. bjt: good to hear I know what you mean. It's something that you're so used to seeing, even if you seldom use it, and then one day its just... gone and it is a weird feeling and you miss it.
