  1. I think what people mean is that the realtime protection is a bit different than it is on the paid version but it still protects of course!
  2. I've personally seen Avira free block rogue (most likely trojan) threats in the background
  3. You're welcome Yeah, the URL would be nice but its very difficult to pinpoint that as you've stated. Don't feel bad! No need to crawl under a rock
  4. Atlas Boy, You're very welcome! Prior to scanning again, make sure that you update Malwarebytes Also, please only restore what you think you absolutely NEED. Also, since you had over two thousand infections found on the scan on the infected PC, I would advise you to do the following as soon as you can: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 72 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 72 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. Thank you
  5. @ noknojon Just so you know, About three months ago, I had an update take about 10 minutes or so on dial up, so it can take more than 5 minutes and doesn't necessarily mean that you're infected Lynn, if you think you may be infected, though, please follow noknojon's directions above
  6. If I may just step in here (and please staff if I am incorrect please feel free to correct me), whatmeworry?: The point that TeMerc is making is simply this: The malicious IP (in this case an advertisement) is ALREADY being accessed, hence the IP block. If it was not already being accessed, there wouldn't be the need for an IP block. Edit: Exile said it much better than I could I hope that things are cleared up for you now
  7. Atlas Boy, If you hope to recover these files, please DO NOT run the mbam clean tool, otherwise they WILL be gone forever pretty much. However, are you positive that they don't contain malware? You don't want to re-infect yourself by restoring them from quarantine. Items placed into quarantine are rendered dead and can no longer harm your computer.
  8. Hey there Atlas Boy, As long as you haven't run the mbamclean tool, if you RE-install Malwarebytes, they should still be there. I've verified this myself on a machine that I removed malware from. Malwarebytes had been removed a few weeks after I removed malware, but mbam clean had not been run. I re-installed Malwarebytes a few months later to run a scan again, and the items that I had removed previously were still in quarantine. I hope this helps As a side note, please use the "ADD REPLY" button at the bottom of the page when replying. Thank you
  9. The link is working fine for me. Anyway, it turns out that the merchant caught the sale and canceled it. soo whacky!
  10. Please contact support@malwarebytes.org so that they can assist you with this. Thank you
  11. I can't even get to it. But I can pretty much say I probably wouldn't get the IP block since my HOSTS files blocks pretty much all ad's, at least the ones with pictures & links. I think I still get some ads, but just linked ones, not ones with the pictures as well.
  12. @ Blaze Thanks It's from Exile, but I recommend all of those too, and those are the exact links I would use, so. I've gotten Avira onto three machines so far, and it blocked a nasty rogue on a friends computer. Didn't totally block something on my family's computer, but Mbam cleaned up the rest

  14. Oh, okay I don't know much about that to be honest, but, have a look at this (keep scrolling, there's more than one): http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/search/label/websites http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/04/adm...r-everyone.html From Miekiemoes's blog
  15. Be super careful of "Sponsored links" and "sponsored ads" and the like by Google... Sponsored ads in general can contain nasties... I'm glad that Mbam was able to get you cleaned up though Did a second scan come out clean?
  16. I'm glad that things worked out for you! I hope to be very computer smart one day too
  17. RR9445, Have you had any recent malware or virus infections on the computer that you are getting this error on, by any chance? And yes, like prairie dog said, Mbam is NOT meant to replace an anti-virus, but to work with it I hope that you are using an AntiVirus program as well. Please email support@malwarebytes.org so that they can assist you with this issue. Thank you.
  18. Are you using an AntiVirus as well? (Only one AntiVirus should be running in real-time at a time).
