both browser hijacked; I'm redirected to ^%$

Recommended Posts

Ever since my problem started with certain web pages no longer be accessible with my IE7, I've had redirect problems pop up. I always thought this was at the result of my search, but I've got some kind of bug, because this affects me with both IE and Firefox, and sends me to the same page every time.

It redirects me.

Here is my Hijack this log:

My problems are FIXED!

BOTH of my browsers are no longer redirected to psedo- "search"pages (spam pages) or any such thing, and BOTH browsers can now access the web pages that were blocked (my home page, and my local newspaper)!

Those registry key things that you had me fix with Hijack this FIXED both problems! That's SOOOOOO cool!

Maybe it's my imagination, but the system seems to run smoother, too.

I REALLY appreciate you helping me with this. I'm updating my Java as recommended....... thank you so much!

Please post back all the logs requested so that I can verify if your system is really clean now or not.

Thanks.

Evidently, my problems are not fixed. I was in the process of running the scans you requested, and after restarting, the problems resurfaced (I think), because I can't go to my home page with IE.

Anyway, here are the logs/scans you requested, in order:

I have done exactly as you said. Below are the scan results that I did AFTER the HJT fix was completed. Neither apparently show anything; but I would rather you decide if this is so......

I have not restarted my machine, as directed. Everything appears good again. I'm tempted to restart the machine, but I'll wait to hear from you.........

Did you update Avira? And do a FULL SCAN

I'm looking to verify if you have an MBR infection that basically restores itself every time you reboot.

Your Anti-Virus if up to date should be able to detect.

Yes, I did a full scan with Avira (updated today) before I did the mbam scan. The avira scan said everything was fine (well, not in those words, but it detected nothing)

I restarted a couple of times, and the problem appears to be fully resolved.... everything's clean, both browsers working fine with no re-directs......

I hope I'm not being premature, but THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

As soon as I can, I'm going to upgrade my Malwarebytes program, just so I can give you guys some money..... this program, and all of this wonderful assistance, is VALUABLE stuff

I will leave the post open for now. I'm checking with some others on this entry to make sure. I think it's okay but will have to get back to you. If you've not heard back from me within a few days please send me a Private Message.

Thanks.

Here is an example when GMER does say it's an MBR infection, which yours does not say.

---- Disk sectors - GMER 1.0.14 ----

I spoke with some other helpers and we agree this should not be an infection.

Open avira. Click "Extras" from the menu at the top and select Boot Records Scan. If more than one partition are configured, then select the partition where the mbr exists (your C: drive) and click "Scan". If there is a mbr virus or rootkit, avira will find it.
