Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted July 20, 2011 Root Admin ID:456004 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Will it connect via a wired connection?Download DDS and save it to your desktophttp://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scrDisable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed. Then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, the DDS.txt will open.Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:DDS.txtAttach.txtSave both reports to your desktopPlease include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt

Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted July 20, 2011 Root Admin ID:456110 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Well after reviewing your Event Logs you have something going on preventing windows security updates from working. I believe you can probably obtain free support from Microsoft as this issue is preventing security updates from being applied.Just open a case online if you can or call in if you have to and explain that your security updates are not installing and provide them the Event Log information like this.Error: Microsoft-Windows-Servicing [4385] - Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of changing update
rgabbard Posted July 20, 2011 ID:456147 Share Posted July 20, 2011 It's possible that the DNS/IP setting for the network card aren't set correctly. If you go into Control Panel then to Network and internet see if you can find the settings for the wireless network card.
showmethebiccies Posted July 20, 2011 Author ID:456327 Share Posted July 20, 2011 using the lan connection i managed to download and install 79 updates!!after which 4 more were required, one of which was for the atheros network adapter, once this was installed everything was fine , wireless connection worked a treat.my sister has now been shown how to set system restore points (weekly)and to use windows update, set to auto update.have recommended MBAM, Avira, and a few others for safety.thanks for the help, its a great site, which i am spreading the word about.showmethebicces
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted July 20, 2011 Root Admin ID:456330 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Great glad you got it working. As for restore points - Windows will automatically create them unless someone has disabled them. But I do agree that having some of your own manually created ones is a good idea too.
