having problems with hotmail

Recommended Posts

so i went to check my hotmail after not going to it for a few hours and it seemed noscript was blocking something different there was no new scripts but it said it was blocking objects but i cant figure out what objects noscript puts an icon in the top left corner over the logo and it seems to be from wlxrs.com that the objects are being blocked since iv never allowed that script to run but iv not blocked it either but iv noticed i CANT change to my junk box or deleted box or anything or go into an email unless i allow the script but iv never had this problem till just now i dont know whats changed anyone have a clue

iv also noticed that some of the things its blocking are javascript or something but im confused i dont want to allow it till i know for sure its safe

im attaching a picture i dont know if you will be able to see it but it shows what the objects are that its blocking any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello, sevensages:

It looks as though you have a duplicate thread started here??

I'm not sure how you are uploading your images, but they don't seem to be uploading correctly, as there are no images with your posts. :(

As an old geezer, I'm also having a bit of trouble understanding your description of the computer problem, since there is no punctuation in your lengthy post. :(

Although I cannot tell for sure what you are describing, it sounds as if it might be indicative of possible computer infection.

The safest bet might be to do the following, as we do not work on malware detection or removal in this particular part of the forum.

1. First, please go to THIS PAGE, print out, read and follow as many instructions as you can, skipping any you are unable to complete.

2. Then, please describe your computer's symptoms as best you can and post the requested logs by starting a new thread at the malware removal forum here. (Please use copy/paste to include the scan results directly in the body of your post, rather than attaching the log files.)

One of the authorized, trained experts will then assist you as soon as possible for one-on-one malware detection and removal.

When you post, please be sure to select Track This Topic & choose one of the email options, so that you will be notified when someone responds.

Please be patient and allow at least 48 hours before bumping your thread - the "0" reply count helps the experts spot your thread.

Other Support Options:

--- Alternatively, as a paying customer using MBAM PRO, you may wish instead to start a support ticket by contacting support at: support@malwarebytes.org; or

--- Premium, fee-based support options are available here.

If your system checks out clean and you are still having issues with hotmail, then you may wish to post back here, or perhaps at Firefox support forums for assistance.

Or, you may wish to send an email to the NoScript developer, or try the NoScript support web site.

Hope this helps a bit,

daledoc1

Hi, again:

NOTE: the BLUE, BOLD, UNDERLINED words are either hyperlinks to web pages or direct links to email addresses.

Let me see if I understand you correctly: are you saying that NoScript is blocking something when you try to use hotmail in Firefox?

1) If that is the case, then you can test this to see if it is the problem by temporarily using Firefox in Safe Mode (NOTE: this is NOT Windows safe mode; it just means Firefox with extensions, such as NoScript, disabled.) If the problem goes away with NoScript disabled, then you will want to uninstall Noscript or try to change the settings, in order to solve the problem. Instructions for running Firefox in Safe Mode are HERE. If disabling NoScript does not solve the problem, then there is something else that is preventing hotmail from working correctly (possibly another extension).

2) For specific help with the NoScript extension, please see the links in my earlier reply (quoted above) & the NoScript Home Page.

3) For help taking a picture of your screen to help others understand what problem you are having, please see THIS PAGE FOR VISTA/7, or THIS PAGE FOR XP. Save the file somewhere on your desktop. Then, click the browse button to locate that file & select it by clicking "open". Then click the "attach this file" button. (See my attached screen capture to illustrate.)

Check out the links in my original reply and in this one for more detailed advice.

Hope this helps,

daledoc1

gee ... i don't like to think i am an old geezer (maybe rubbing up against it real hard though) and i have problems with a "wall o' text" too .

@ OP :

if you have recently performed a complete wipe of the HD , installed the OS from the ground up and installed some programs , then your machine should be clean ...

provided that you installed anti-mal/virus software early on in the cycle and any subsequent programs were legit/clean .

going with the idea that your machine is clean , and the mail program and java program you use (say sun java) is not corrupted and is up to date ...

it is also possible to be blocking certain scripts/commands that "make java do it's thing" .

try turning off all script blockers , then see if things are working ok .

if your AV and anti-malware is running full tilt , and you are not already infected , you should not have a problem during the testing .

not that i endorse/suggest such actions on a regular basis but in order to make an omelet , sooner or later you gotta break some eggs .

additionally :

a google search turns up quite a bit of information/troubles/problems related to wlxrs.com , as well as possible solutions (that may not be related to the addy itself) .

do some recon and then make an informed decision .

going with the idea that your machine is clean

Yes, I am assuming that, so I dropped this section of the advice from my 2nd reply. :)

and the mail program

Unless I missed something, I think the OP is using the web-based "hotmail", & is trying to view his/her mail from within Firefox, not an email client?

and java program you use (say sun java) is not corrupted and is up to date ...

it is possible to be blocking certain scripts/commands that "make java do it's thing" .

try turning off all script blockers , then see if things are working ok .

FWIW, "java"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_%28programming_language%29) and "javascript" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript) are not the same thing.

The OP has posted about the script-blocking extension for Firefox, "NoScript", and that's what we are trying to trouble-shoot.

One approach is to disable NoScript and then to RESTART Fx.

However, running Firefox in Mozilla Safe Mode will help to determine if NoScript, or another extension, might be causing the problem. This is the more comprehensive and accurate way to troubleshoot & isolate a Fx performance issue.

If running Fx in Safe Mode does resolve it, then that suggests an extension is the cause. The next steps are to sequentially re-enable a few extensions at a time to see if the problem re-occurs. If it does, then the problematic extension was in the last bunch of extensions that was enabled.

If running Fx in Safe Mode does NOT resolve it, then there is something else causing the hotmail problem, perhaps a script-blocking component of an AV or other security program, as CWB suggests.

I don't use hotmail, so I can't offer tips on the specifics of that mail program.

But I have suggested the basic "diagnostics" recommended at the Fx Support forums and used successfully for years: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_%28Firefox%29

yep ... i run noscript on my gf's machine and every now and then i have to look at something that "isn't working anymore" .

"it is possible to be blocking certain scripts/commands that "make java do it's thing" ."

whoops , i missed a word in there ; "also" .

corrected .

i run the web based hotmail , instant messenger , windows live messenger (and whatever other names they have come up) with program(s) and over the years there have been compatibility issues at times as well as the "suddenly not working" bit .

you are right about the mozilla/FF forum ... good place to get answers .
