Help prevent Facebook hacks

With all the hype about hacking and viruses going around the Internet, its a good idea to enable your Facebook security to a secure connection.

While on FB, look at your URL address (the very top box on your screen). If you see "http:" instead of "https:" then you DO NOT have a secure session and can be HACKED. Got to Account (Button on top right corner on Facebook page) Then click on - Account Settings - Down the list to Account Security - and click Change. Check box (secure browsing), click Save. You can also click on the section that states: When a new computer or mobile device logs into this account to notify you by email. This way you will know if someone else logged into your account on a different computer. Once you clicked on Save, you will now be browsing Facebook securely. Facebook has automatically set it on the non-secure setting so its a good idea to change it to secure!

Examples:

http://www.facebook.com (this one is not secure)

https://www.facebook.com (this one is secure)

My friend has been on facebook for 3 years (2008) and has never been hacked with the original facebook settings.

I see many other friends clicking on "SEE WHAT THIS GIRL DID ON CAMERA!" Yup, those are the ones who get hacked..

In fact, I'm getting a lot of notifications of people tagging me in them.

I've been a member of Facebook for a year or so, but I am not a frequent user of it. Except for VirusTotal where it really does not make a difference, I choose https over http whenever it is available.

:)

Maybe I should start using Facebook more frequently and clicking on those suspicious URLS to get more samples.

The problem with that is most of the time your account would get hijacked and send them out. I wouldn't mind collecting them, but for the sake of others it's not worth it.

That is exactly why I have not been doing this in the first place. Maybe I could make an account with no friends and try it that way so it would not negatively affect others.
