Question on scan times

Hi, just wondering if it's ok to run a mbam full scan with my antivirus suite temporarily disabled? I've noticed that there is a big difference in scan times with my antivirus program active and inactive while scanning with mbam.

Note: I do not surf the web while my antivirus is disabled

Yes, that would be alright, but a preferrable method might be simply to exclude Malwarebytes' from your antivirus so that your AV isn't scanning all the files on your computer as they're being accessed by Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's scanner (this is what's causing the slowness by the way ).

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

I'm not sure how to do what you asked. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 installed, XP (sp3).

Can you explain how to exclude those files please?

Certainly

Just open up the exclusion settings in Kaspersky as indicated here and for all of Malwarebytes' executables (exe's) check the box next to each of the following:

• Do not scan opened files
  
• Do not monitor application activity
  
• Do not monitor child application activity
  
• Do not scan network traffic
  

That will allow them to operate smoothly together.

I have done as the tutorial suggests, although I have left the Rule Description as defualt

Should I change them or leave them as they are?

I have never used this function in Kaspersky before, should I also use the exclusion settings for Spyware Doctor as well, as its also installed on my pc?

You can leave the Rule Description as is, it shouldn't do any harm . As for Spyware Doctor, I'm not sure if it actually has an exclusion function or not but I don't think having it active while Malwarebytes' scans should cause too much slowness.
