greyowl Posted December 9, 2009 ID:168766 Share Posted December 9, 2009 I am using MBAM Pro. I only use it for on-demand scans. I noticed that MBAM Pro installs as a service. In order to reduce constant memory use, I disabled the service. I assumed that the service feature was connected only to the realtime protection. The on-demand scans still seem to work OK. I read a review of MBAM by Donna Buenaventura who says that if it runs as a service then this allows it to have full access when scanning and removing.I am wondering if disabling the service has any effect on the functioning of MBAM when used exclusively for on-demand scanning. exile360 Posted December 9, 2009 ID:168768 Share Posted December 9, 2009 If you're only using MBAM as a scanner you don't need the service running, it is only for the realtime protection.

mountaintree16 Posted December 9, 2009 ID:168785 Share Posted December 9, 2009 You might want to consider turning it on sometimes though, at least for web searching/surfing purposes, as it adds excellent protection for your computer in addition to Avira
