Yesterday I discovered that many websites were blocked by a virus. I tried to Google Malwarebytes and other AV sites. They all were blocked. I have a dell W10 laptop with 2 logins. I signed into the 2nd one and was able to download the Malwarebytes free trial and install it. I ran a FULL scan and it found 5 items which I put in Quarantine. Everything seemed fine. I went back to my main login and it was okay. BUT, when I turned the laptop on this morning, The virus was back. I started my Malwarebytes again and ran a FULL scan and it found NO detected problems. ??? What can I do? I still cannot connect with any AV site.

Let's get the info to get the process started.

Please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your system for any possible infections.

Do these 2 steps FIRST so that files and folders are set to SHOW, plus also, Turn OFF Windows Fast Start.
Show-Hidden-Folders-Files-Extensions

Disable-Fast-Startup

Then please restart the computer and do the following.

WARNING: Do Not click the Repair option under Advanced unless requested by a Malwarebytes support agent or authorized helper

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained are safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • In your Downloads folder, open the mb-support-x.x.x.xxx.exe file
  • In the User Account Control pop-up window, click Yes to continue the installation
  • Run the MBST Support Tool. The tool also downloads and runs a file called FRSTEnglish. Please allow it to run.
  • In the left navigation pane of the Malwarebytes Support Tool, click Advanced
  • In the Advanced Options, click Gather Logs. A status diagram displays the tool is Getting logs from your machine
  • A zip file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to the Desktop or on the hidden Public desktop (usually C:\Users\Public\Desktop), please upload that file on your next reply

I was not sure how long it would be for I got a reply to my post. I decided to roll the dice and do a Window Restore to a Recovery Point from a few days ago, before the trouble started yesterday. It is working normally now. I did a download of Malwarebytes and installed it, I also turned the laptop off and then back on. No problems. I am to say you can close this incident and I hope I do not have to start it over again some day. I am going to buy one of your plans as soon as I review them all. Thank you very much for replying so quick and offering to attempt a solution. I did run a scan and put 4 items in quarantine and have the report I could give you if you want (text file).

I agree and as I wrote, I am going to buy one of the Malwarebytes plans. I have used your product a few times in the past and it worked great. But in those events, I could download the AV and run it with no problem. This virus was really nasty. It blocked my browser from getting to ANY site related to AV. BTW, my wife has an Android phone that seems to have been infected by the same virus on the same day. It was acting the same way. I finally managed to download the free trial on the phone and right now it seems to be "installing" so I can run a scan. It has been "unpacking data base" for hours. I guess it a very large database. I should have seen this coming. She plays a good number of video games on the phone and her laptop. I always believed those games were very risky for hacking and allowing ads and virus. Also, from what I can figure out, the free trial program has some features that are not active (like root kit) until bought. Maybe that is why it found no infections even though the virus was still active? Again, I am going to take your excellent advice and buy one of your plans both for laptop and phone. Thank you again.
