Free website host?

I was looking to start up a little web site of my own, Nothing fancy just a plain site to experiment with content but I noticed Geocites is no longer accepting new accounts and the others either cost and have poor reps like "GoDaddy" or just have poor reps on WoT.

Can any one recommend any sites?

Thanks.

YoKenny1 is right, most Internet providers will provide space for your website, I dont know of the cost (if there is a cost that is) or anything else though since I've never done that.

I've also heard of free web hosts, but, I think someone reported an IP block with that that wasn't a FP (I don't remember exactly though) so I wouldn't go with that.

I see you mentioned GeoCities, do you know if Geocities even exists anymore?

Let us know how you make out :D I'd be curious to know too because I might want to make a site again sometime B)

Hmm. If you can't find anything on their site I would definitely recommend calling them just to double check B)

Hmm. So when you say Geocities is closing down do you know if they're completely closing down and taking things off of their servers or only taking on pay-to-use clients now?

I had a lot of fun with it when I used it though, it was cool exploring it and building my site.

Mountaintree16 all it says on the site is

GEOCITIES IS CLOSING ON OCTOBER 26, 2009.

New GeoCities accounts are no longer available.

Yardbird looks like I am going to have to hold off on the website now as my ISP is going to be issuing a tool so I can mmonitor my usage which is supposedly 2gb a month and if I go above that twice in six months they are going to bump me to a different tariff and right now I do not have the money for that B) and I have a suspicion that I have been going over it for the past two years when I look at there page on general usage.

Thanks :)

Ohhh I forgot that some ISP's monitor how much usage their users use. Sorry you'll have to hold off on your website B) Good luck when you do make one, though, and it would still be worth contacting them and asking them about websites for your future knowledge.

If you want, yeah I'd appreciate it. I just really don't know the first thing about building a website (especially from scratch), yardbird, other than a class I took one time with Dreamweaver ages ago that I don't remember very well B)

building a website, is easy today, not like the HTML days, today you can drag & drop - point & click. and its done! Depends on the type of site...

I do a little development in HTML/CSS by scratch and have done some projects in PHP. I built my own website for my business at http://www.kmpcrepair.com with Notepad++ which is just a suped up Notepad. So if you need any help let me know. I know mine is ugly, it just lacks graphics which I can't do. My imagination is terrible.

Thanks for the offer swagger, your looks pretty good! I am hoping that the site I found seems pretty simple but they are moving servers right this minute so I am wondering if it would be possible to check if it would be blocked by MBAM IP protection http://www.jimdo.com/ its down at the moment but I do not want to proceed if its one of those sites that host bad domains, The WoT has mostly green about it but there is one red that is worrying http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/jimdo.com < though its in german as the comp is a german site.

Thanks for any help on this.

@ Chimpy

Good luck with the suggestion from Swagger! :)

Also, we used these sites in the class that I took:

http://www.webmonkey.com/

http://www.htmlgoodies.com/

(not sure how I remembered them, but I did ;) )

I didn't get any IP blocks or warnings from MBAM or my AV, so the sites seem to be safe :o
