[ RESOLVED ] Windows 10 May Update - Not Responding

Recommended Posts

I noticed after I updated Windows 10 with the May (2004?) update I was getting applications hanging with Not Responding messages.

I'm able to recreate the issue with applications like CISCO WebEx.   If I stop Malwarebytes,  then I do not get the problems with Windows applications hanging/Not Responding messages for those applications.

Malwarebytes is home version, and all up to date.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Hello Mardi.

Thank you very much for the report.   You do have the Malwarebytes Support tool.   We will use that for the following.   Basically a clean / & reinstall of the Malwarebytes for Windows.

Have lots of patience during both phases of the run of the tool.   The 2nd phase may take a good bit of time till it then appears.

"Uninstall and reinstall Malwarebytes using the Malwarebytes Support Tool"

https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039023473-Uninstall-and-reinstall-Malwarebytes-using-the-Malwarebytes-Support-Tool

After it settles back in, let us know how it goes.   If by chance no joy,  then we can guide you to getting the Beta version 4.1.1.71    ( the latter has improvements & fixes).

Sincerely.

One additional  note:  If this Windows is set for "Fast Startup"  then be very sure to turn that Off.   That feature is known to cause problems.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html

One other thing that needs to be pointed out:   The real-time protection history of the Malwarebytes program shows a lot of block notice events  ( website IP blocks) when uTorrent is active.     Lets please be sure to turn Off uTorrent.

The real-time Web protection is keeping the pc safe from harm.

1) Used the clean tool in Malwarebytes Support tool

2) "Fast Startup"  set that to turn Off

Since I started this thread, I think Malwarebytes application has updated today.

So far no problems, with other Windows applications saying Not Responding -  if the issue happens again, I'll let you know.

Merci.   Thank you for the re-confirmation.

Windows Fast Startup has been known as a problem-maker  for not only Malwarebytes,  but for other security programs too.   As well as also being a source of trouble even on the Windows build update itself.

I am happy to see that this machine is now doing normal once more.   And on version 4.1.0.56   with CU  1.0.931   😊

Now then,  have there been any new website or IP block event-notice-windows today ?

Hello.

Malwarebytes for Windows Component 1.0.9.55  was made available as a release 16 June
See  https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/257102-malwarebytes-41/?do=findComment&comment=1388340

If your pc has any earlier Package, it will get that  as part of automatic program update.
( Unless you have blocked automatic install updates).

You can pull the Componnet down by simply clicking "Check for Updates" under the General tab in Settings.
I believe you will do well with this Component.
