Malwarebytes suddenly falling back to free mode

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As part of my daily routine, I checked for any notifications in the Windows Action Center (white flag in taskbar) only moments ago to see if there was anything I should be aware of. To my surprise there was a message stating that "The computer needs to be scanned", something I had never seen before. Opening the Action Center revealed that Windows Defender was suddenly turned on (alongside ESET) without any intervention from my side. Malwarebytes was not listed in the active anti virus list.

Opening Malwarebytes in order to check why it was not listed showed that it was no longer running in Premium mode:

My license details seem to have completely vanished:

My license is not even close to being expired yet (I renewed my license February this year). I did not touch or change anything to my system that could potentially explain this issue. The last time I checked Malwarebytes (which I believe was only yesterday), everything was still fine.

  • OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
  • Malwarebytes version: 3.4.5.2467
  • Component package version: 1.0.342
  • Update package version: 1.0.4908

I suppose I could just re-enter my license details, but I figured it would probably be better to find out what may have caused this.

What could be the problem here?

Looking back at my post I wanted to remove some unnecessary details as well as the screenshots as they do not really add any useful information, but unfortunately I can no longer edit it only a few minutes later... It would be nice if we could get a bit more time to make changes

Can you please provide the logs mentioned in the following thread:

Well, is a third set of logs really needed? If so, I rather directly PM them to you -- to be fairly honest, I'm not too sure I like having these publically accessible, quite a bit of information in there.

Yes, the new logs would be helpful because you stated you weren't disconnected from the internet so it can help us look into it. You can definitely private message me the logs by clicking my name, I went ahead and removed your other logs from this post so the information was no longer available

So we see what's happening and will work on a solution, but  the cause is very strange. It looks like Malwarebytes is starting up, and then within 10 seconds is shutting back down for some reason. Are you perhaps starting/stopping Malwarebytes a lot?

It also deleated my license.

No, I've never stopped Malwarebytes at all. But good to hear you've been able to discover what's happening :)
