Real time protection turned off and PC keeps crashing

Recommended Posts

I have malwarebytes premium and the real time protection won't turn on; Task Manager shows malwarebytes using a huge percentage of the system memory, and then the computer crashes. I am only an intermediate level computer user so please don't assume too much knowledge in what you ask me to do in your reply. Also be aware that as the PC keeps crashing I may not be able to do anything that takes a long time to obtain any data you may need. Please help, as this is making my computer unusable. I am running Windows 10 and have attached a screen shot of the system specifications.

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Having the same issue.  I have uninstall this program and now i can use my laptop again.  It was so bad that i could not open ANYTHING on my laptop, could not even shut it down because i could not get to the screen i needed to do that. So i winded up just holding my power button down till it turn it's self off then i restarted it in safe mode, uninstalled Malware bytes then restarted my laptop. Now i have everything back and running on my laptop and i can use it again. I will re-install Malware bytes when they have the problem fixed.

I'm so glad this turned out to be Mbam. I thought my brand new video card was on the fritz when my screen went black. Had to hold the power to shut it down.  This all  Just started today. I noticed the same symptoms you all have mentioned with the Mbam proceses.

Thank goodness I found this page. I have spent all day trying to figure this out - uninstalling and installing apps, video card drivers - now as soon as I boot if I close Malwarebytes it doesn't happen. I was getting 99% processor and RAM use, then everything going black and unresponsive as have all the other posters. I have uninstalled Malwarebytes now until they can find a fix!!
