suhjonathan97 Posted June 21, 2013 Author ID:694066 Share Posted June 21, 2013 If it is a hardware failure, can I just replace the HD? Or is the laptop itself damaged?
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted June 21, 2013 Root Admin ID:694199 Share Posted June 21, 2013 No if the hard drive is bad then you simply would need to replace it. Though depending on how bad you may not be able to image it to copy to the new drive. I would highly recommend that you backup all your important data before you do find out it is a bad drive and it fails completely. Most computers have built-in diagnostics to test the drive. Look for one of the function keys to press when it's starting to see if you can get in a diagnostics area to test the hard drive. If not then you can also use software from the MFG or 3rd party sites to do that.
suhjonathan97 Posted June 21, 2013 Author ID:694249 Share Posted June 21, 2013 Okay. So are we diagnosing this solely as a hardware problem? Also, could you help me with the "imaging" process you talked about?
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted June 21, 2013 Root Admin ID:694263 Share Posted June 21, 2013 Well first off were you able to run a diagnostic from the BIOS to check the drive? You may also be able to download software to test the drive out http://storage.toshiba.com/storage-services-support/warranty-support/software-utilities
suhjonathan97 Posted June 21, 2013 Author ID:694287 Share Posted June 21, 2013 Okay. First of all, how do I find out which type of HD I have?
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted June 22, 2013 Root Admin ID:694393 Share Posted June 22, 2013 You can open your Device Manager and look at the model under the disk drives and then Google the drive to get more information.
