  1. Hello. I have trouble with I think Malware, my Mozilla keep open up a tab with ads eventho its closed or the laptop not connected to internet at all. I have tried using Adwcleaner but it just didn't work at all. Malwarebytes won't open and Malwarebytes chameleon didn't work at all. Please I need your help.
  2. I installed MBAM a long time ago and all seemed well. Then discovered Chameleon and thought I'd install it to be on the safe side. Now when I try to open MBAM, nothing happens. Windows 10 PC. Not sure what else might be relevant to the issue...
  3. Haven't seen an option to run Chameleon on Malwarebytes since several updates ago. Does it still exist? A search through these forums indicate that folks are still using it.
  4. Recently I have been unable to start Malwarebytes. When i try to start the program it thinks for a few second then doesnothing. I have read other forums on this topic and have tried some solutions. I tried downloading and running Chameleon. When I run chameleon it seems to work and everything goes smoothly however it ends up just installing Malwarebytes again. Following this new installation of malwarebytes it tells me there is a new version and asks me to install the update. If I install the update I am once again unable to open Malwarebytes. Currently i am stuck with an older version of Malwarebytes and a new version that will not open. I have tried what has been suggested in other posts to download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool which I have managed to do. I now have FRST.txt and Addition.txt files from the scan result but I have no idea what to do with this info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I was using AVG anti virus and mb3-setup-consumer- Mouse behaviour If left untouched for a period, my mouse needed a button click in order to function. It seemed to be moving slowly, and would drift upwards, when hovering over a link. Modded the setup to max speed, but it still wasn't right. (In all my decades of computing, I've never experienced this mouse behaviour) I had watched F1 via a stream - many such streams launch an advert new window if the stream page is clicked. This would be a good way of forcing the user to click the page. Opening a new firefox tab : unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x00406b64 Malwarebytes scan Tried to run a Malwarebytes scan, but it wouldn't run. Spybot found nothing threatening. Installed super antispyware - it found no threats. Chameleon Ran chameleon - option 2 worked - it suggested that I upgrade, which I did to 3.5.1 However, 3.5 wouldn't launch. Uninstalled it and reinstalled 3.1 Option 2 no longer worked ... I think it was option 8 that worked ... I ran a scan ... zero threats. Note: each time an option wouldn't work, it would stop at 'enabling driver' requiring a reboot every time. Testing the 13 options took a long time. 3.5.1 Reinstalled 3.5.1 - it wouldn't launch, but it did launch the following day (maybe it needed a reboot). Ran a scan - zero threats. ------------------------ I finally finished a big report last night. Today, booted the PC ... Malwarebytes blocked (outbound) - I hadn't launched a connection to that site. I am alerted at regular intervals of this site being blocked. -Blocked Website Details- Malicious Website: 1 , , Blocked, [-1], [-1],0.0.0 -Website Data- Category: Unspecified Domain: IP Address: Port: [0] Type: Outbound File: Loaded scanurl.net in Firefox - https crossed out, and the url input box did not display. Loaded scanurl.net in Chrome - https displayed - the url input boxes appeared momentarily, then disappeared, and were inaccessible. Checked the site in google transparency and phishtank - result : clean I noticed that the mouse was now functioning correctly!!! ------------ What to do? Is it possible that malware can be switched on and off? Does anybody recognise this strange mouse behaviour? Might the mouse be working correctly because is now being blocked? Could this be simple suppression - general time-wasting aspect of a varied package of measures?
  6. Hello! Whenever I try to open Malwarebytes, my computer thinks for a second and then nothing happens. I downloaded Chameleon and tried all of the options, but none of them opened the DOS window. Any help is appreciated.
  7. FIrst I should note that I am running the free version of Malwarebytes. I received a notification that Malwarebytes detected an issue through my Windows 7 pop-up notification tray. When I clicked on it to see the status of Malwarebytes and the "issue" nothing happened. Now when I attempt to run Malwarebytes the program won't open. A quick Google search led me to Chameleon but that doesn't seem to be helping either. No matter what icon I click on provided in the zip file I can't see the Chameleon program I've seen in screenshots that shows the different Tests. I click on each one and a DOS window appears attempting to either download Malwarebytes or scan. The best result I've had was Chameleon successfully downloading and installing Malwarebytes once more but the issue persists. The program will not open. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some user error behind troubleshooting this issue, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Hello MBAM support. Today, I pluged in a USB into my computer and I noticed my files had been changed to direct accesses. Unfortunately I clicked one and the problems started from there. I have ESET Endpoint Antivirus and immediately after trying to open a .docx document a notification started popping up about a URL adresss being blocked. Every 5-10 seconds the notification appears again and it has never stopped since. At first, I tried restarting my computer but it did not work, the notification continued. Then I heard of MBAM and installed it but the program would not run. So, I went and opened the chameleon help file by going into the folder located in program files. (Note: There was no folder in start called "Malwarebytes Anti Malware", there was only one called "Malwarebytes" and it only contained a direct access to the program and the uninstaller). I went through all Chameleon #. The first 3 or 4 opened the DOS box but it got closed down almost immediately. The others had better success and were able to launch Malwarebytes, but a second or two after that it darkened the screen and a pop-up window saying the program stopped working. After windows "analyzed" the problem it told me the program stopped working altogether and only gave me the option to close it. This happened with every other Chameleon # Next, in order to post a topic here, I tried running the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, but I was unable. The windows appear for a second (or less!) and then immediately close down. Screenshots 3 and 4 of my attachments are those. Note that in the second screenshot you can see the ESET notification that is endlessly popping up, which reveals the URL address that is being blocked. Also, you may notice my computer is in spanish. I hope this is not a problem. I then ran Rkill and it told me programs should be able to run now, but I still had the same problems. I attached the log it created. Other than the constant pop-ups from ESET and the preventing of anti-malware programs being launched I haven't had any problems. I am, of course, being extremely careful of what I'm doing in my computer right now. Additional notes: -ESET is outdated, and it has constantly been telling me so for a while. I'm not sure why. I can't update it. -I ran McAfee Security Scan Plus and it did not detect any threats. It only told me that ESET is outdated -I registered this account just for this and it is temporary. I do not want to type any of my actual passwords just in case. -I always have an EHDD plugged into my computer (it's a laptop). I just noticed to my dismay that everything in it got turned into a direct acess too. Is there any way the files in it can be saved? I don't want to unplug it just in case. After noticing the problems happening, I formatted the USB that started the problems. I restarted the computer with that USB still plugged in and unplugged it only after that. I don't want to connect it again for now. What I am most concerned about are the files in that EHDD. Thank you for your time. Rkill.txt
  9. Hello! I am a real novice when it comes to dealing with Malware but I think I may have an infection. My disk usage often runs up to 100% leaving me unable to run programs or do anything. The exact symptoms differ with every boot. Sometimes my desktop loads without a background picture. I tried to run Malwarebytes to scan my pc but it will not open beyond asking if I want to run it in a UAC window. I tried to run Chameleon but it terminates after a brief scan. I can't seem to copy a log from it either but ive seen the same error report on other forums. Is there any advice anyone can offer? Am I being thick or do I have some nasty virus blocking Malwarebytes from running? P.s. I have disabled Windows Search & Superfetch and that appears to have freed up some disk usage but Malwarebytes still won't run even in chameleon.
  10. We frequently have to deploy chameleon on many machines at a time, but it installs MBAM 2 not 3. This is a PITA because customers now expect the latest version and upgrading everything manually is not an option. Chameleon doesn't like a renamed MBAM3 setup and goes on to download and install MBAM2. Is there a command line option or something to make it install MBAM3? Pleeease, think about guys deploying on many machines!
  11. MBAM-Chameleon ver. Windows 7 Program is stuck & computer will not respond. Currently stating, "Waiting for scan to complete" -------- (blinking) (FOREVER ~16 hrs) Closed 2nd MBAM screen that gave me a root-kit error: 200025 Unable to open Task Manager Don't want to turn off computer & risk causing an issue.
  12. Okay so my microphone has been automatically muting itself through the windows sound properties. I was told it was malware and to end task named svchost.exe that's under my current user profile. So I did that and booted up Malware to clean up the system it didn't find anything until it went to heuristic analysis. It finds the pup in the image below and when I press removal selected it seems to freeze then crash. If I open it back up the following programs are in the history and I press delete selected and restart my computer (without being prompt to do so) and when my computer comes back I scan again and it finds the same files again and it all happens again. I've tried using Chameleon mode after the scan (in which it only found one instead of 4) After I pressed remove selected it says Mbam cannot communicate with mbam ui or something like that and it just keeps retrying. I also tried using rkill.exe and I've also posted the document it made. If anyone can help me it would be helpful. Rkill.txt
  13. So over the last few days I've noticed that my internet connection would drop for every device in the house when my PC was turned on. I tried changing to a wireless connection but unfortunately I would have the same problem. I think that it could be some sort of malware causing this and my suspicion of malware is only strengthened because I can't open Malware bytes. I've tried using Malwarebytes chameleon but that seems launch and scan, but always fails. I've tried other free malware/virus removers and they haven't found anything but my experience with malwarebytes in the past tells me the other program doesnt usually find the stuff MB does.
  14. Greetings, While prevention is always better than having to deal with infections after the fact, and since cleanup can often be an incredibly difficult process, the following tutorials were created to assist you with using known methods to get Malwarebytes up and running when it is being prevented from doing so by the infections on your system. Note: The below workarounds will not work in all situations and you may need expert assistance to fully clean an infected system. The following tutorials are simply to help you in getting Malwarebytes up and running and to correct some common issues caused by current infections. If the below methods do not fully resolve your issues or you are not too computer savvy and would like the assistance of an expert then we advise you to follow these instructions to receive assistance with getting your system cleaned up. Use Malwarebytes Chameleon to run Malwarebytes when Malwarebytes won't run due to infection Use Malwarebytes Chameleon to install Malwarebytes on an already infected system How to use Malwarebytes Chameleon when it cannot be opened normally through the START menu Malwarebytes Chameleon's help file will not open due to infection Use unhide.exe to Reveal Files and Folders Hidden by Rogue Infections Run as and Run as administrator Alternate Methods of Starting Malwarebytes Use RKill to Allow Malwarebytes to Run Run exeHelper to Allow EXE's to Run Run Malwarebytes from Safe Mode with Networking Scan for rootkits using Malwarebytes and use FixDamage.exe What should I do if none of my security applications will run? 15. Hi! I've been suffering with some malware that opens ads on the web browser (ad block is not working anymore) and don't let me download some softwares, like antivirus, including Malwarebytes, and my windows Firewall is constantly deactivating. I had to download Malwarebytes from other computer and copy here, but it didn't open. So I tried to use the Chameleon, but this is what happens: MBAM-Chameleon ver. 16. Hello. I tried running Malwarebytes and it was taking 18 to 24 hours and still not completing with a total of around 300,000 files scanned. I ran at least 5 different Chameleons, and each time they appeared to run. I then ran Malwarebytes again to see if it would scan faster and it still took 18+ hours to scan and never completed. I downloaded Farbar and ran it. I am attaching the files. Thanks for any help you can give me. Addition.txt FRST.txt
  17. When I reboot from avast software program and anvirus definition update it gets an error "The application was unable to start properly (0xc0000906). Click OK to close the application.", same goes to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Many pop-ups from windows defender appears that malware is blocked, later then I found out I'm being infected by Trojan:Win32/Patched.AP (quarantined then removed) from a simple scan thanks to the only remaining antimalware that still can open during this time, Windows Defender, when another antimalware that I can open fail to do so (Iobit Malware-fighter). But that has not solved the issue. Antivirus, Malwarebytes and other major programs and security software still cannot be opened due to dnsapi.dll: lsass.exe - Unable To Locate Component "This application has failed to start because DNSAPI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." even in Chameleon Malwarebytes also fail to start because it's not independent from dnsapi.dll (which for me, quite a flaw compared to Windows Defender and Iobit Malware-fighter that does not require dnsapi.dll to run) I need help to restore dnsapi.dll and clean all the malware without the need to recover to an earlier state since system restore and system protection also fails to start and I don't wish to reinstall windows all over again. I tried all combination possible of cmd commands (like: sfc /scannow), regedit, accidentally installing bloatware that happens to be fake "registry fixer", using AdWare cleaner, junkware removal tool, farbar, unlocker, none worked so far. Here I attached some files from FRST. I need urgent help. Thanks for the reply. Addition.txt FRST.txt
  18. About an hour chrome started redirecting all my searches to Yahoo, as well as my home page. I checked the homepage and search setting in chrome and they are unchanged. I downloaded and ran CCleaner. Problem not solved. I downloaded Malwarebytes (I had McAfee installed already but I couldn't find a scan button on it) but it refused to open. I downloaded Malwarebytes Chameleon and it opened, ran through to when it asks to update MBAM and has been sat there for about 25 minutes. Is this normal? Is it working? What else can I try?

  20. Hi there. My log in screen was loading super slowly, so I decided I should probably run a Malwarebytes scan. It wouldn't open when I clicked on the shortcut, so I tried to go through Chameleon. Clicked all 13 options, no cmd prompt came up. Tried going in through the program in the Chameleon program folder. Nothing. Looked on the forums, dowloaded rkill, and it wouldn't open. Revosetup wouldn't open. I can't open the "uninstall programs" option of the control panel. I even tried to uninstall the program I suspected (since I didn't remember downloading it) through the cmd prompt and it said something about an "unexpected switch". I've run a quick scan on avast which came up with nothing, and I'm in the middle of a full scan as I'm typing this. Where should I go from here?
  21. I have a laptop that I use sparingly for school and leisure. It runs on Windows 7 and has never given me any problems, really, other than being unable to play videogames. It suffices for email, internet, and schoolwork, so that is enough for me. However, one thing led to another, and recently after trying every tactic I can think of in my limited knowledge of the IT industry, I have come to the conclusion that my recent sufferings in memory usage, freezing during web use, and overall cpu performance are a result of some undetectable form of malware. After scouring the web for advice on how to proceed next, I decided to try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, due to its many recommendations. Unfortunately, I have run into problems doing so. Specifically, I can get no further than downloading the installer and running it. When I get past the intial confirmation and set up windows, the installation hangs when the installation progress bar appears and displays an error message that reads: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\Chameleon\Windows\mbam-chameleon.com An error occured while trying to read the source file: Access is denied. Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation." This event only confirmed my suspicions that something must be deeply wrong with my laptop, and I now sadly view it as a child with the T-virus, waiting for me to lower my guard at the right moment to strike... I have tried the various workarounds known, like installing MB-AM on a clean PC and transferring the Chameleon folder via a USB flashdrive. In this case whatever is preventing the installation would also not let me paste the Chameleon folder onto my desktop or anywhere else. I tried running it from the flashdrive directly but non of the 13 Chameleons worked, they all marked "Tested" and had no results. I even tried manually downloading the MB-AM installer as a renamed file under a different extension, but this unseen force cannot be swayed and continues to deny my attempts and hold me hostage to its performance robbing ways. I have also installed SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition under the portable version and was able to run this successfully. However, despite removing over 131 different types of adware during a 25 minute long full-scan, it returned nothing else. All other attempts so far have proved futile, and I suspect the worst, a rootkit. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, otherwise my next logical step would be to try installing Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. (attached is a screenshot of the infamous rejection screen I keep getting) Thank you
  22. Hello I have a potential infection on my laptop, which I believing I have been dealing with for several weeks, at least. I noticed the expert help on these forums, so I decide to come here. I will focus on my pc's current symptoms, as I have applied fixes with varying results. Symptoms: 1) Malwarebytes will not open 2) MBAM Chameleon successfully opens but encounters the following error: Updating MBAM. . . Response from update : Failed to start the update Killing known malicious processes, please wait. . . Mbam-killer timeout set to 1800 seconds. Mbam-killer is scanning - Please C to cancel. . . 23. Everyday I run Malwarebytes Premium first thing in the morning. Yesterday, it would not start. So, I ran Chameleon. Chameleon couldn't get it going, either. Next, I went back to an earlier restore point (1-1-15). That didn't help. I uninstalled Malwarebytes Premium because I have a program disk. It still wouldn't start. After that, the day becomes a bit of a blur. By trying various things and trial programs the situation would improve temporarily. My main symptoms are extremely slow startup (20-25 minutes), Malwarebytes Premium, sometimes working, sometimes not, and my mouse pointer likes to mysteriously disappear only to eventually reappear. It seems re-starts bring back the Malwarebytes and mouse issue. Obviously, I need some help here and would appreciate anyway directed my way. Also, I tried downloading FARBAR and Norton Internet Security blocked it, and referred to it as WS.Reputation.1.
  24. My computer has started working in a way that would point to their being some type of infection. When I try to open Malwarebytes nothing happens and when I run Chameleon it fails to update and eventually terminates due to the inability to start the scan. Please help me fix this problem.
  25. Malwarebytes not working, Chameleon didn't work either, tried running in safe mode and running updated zip file of chameleon and still nothing, ran rkill still cant get malwarebytes to run? Where do I go from here?
