xp virus or something else

Last Wednesday on this XP using at that time for a few days microsoft essential and google chrome. Had prior to using essentials and google chrome using FF8 and Avast free. I switched because sites were coming up too slow using VZ broadband.

Took laptop to a computer person and after 2 days he could not fix so I took it back. That was Friday.

Yesterday, Saturday I was able to copy out all my files to a flash drive did a malwarebytes quick scan and a free Avast quick scan and XP seemed to be working and I was tired of messing around with it.

I forgot on Saturday I removed essentials and google chrome and went back to FF8 and avast free.

Today, Sunday when I type in a search in Google I see usual list of sites however and this is problem when I click on a link I'm taken to some other site and it takes a while to get there. Once I'm there is was not link I wanted to go. I'm being misdirected.

So I thought why not do a full Malwarebytes search.

I started it at 9:23am and it ended 1 hour 52 min 44 seconds later scanning 308662 objects on this windows 5.1.2600 all this using data base 8309 of Malwarebytes. No infected object found.

The browser redirects suggest that your computer may be infected, even if an MBAM scan is clean.

We cannot work on malware detection/removal in this part of the General MBAM forum.

So, please read the following to get started on the cleaning process:
