  1. Hi:

First, try this: download, save to your desktop, and then right-click and "run as administrator" the MBAM 2.0.4 installer from >>HERE<< or >>HERE<<
That will upgrade on top of your existing installation (you might be prompted to reboot).

See here: Why do I get a message stating I must "log in as an Administrator" during a program upgrade?

    If that doesn't work:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

P.S. The moderator team may move this thread to the MBAM Help Section. No worries, though. :)

  2. Hi:

TMALSS It is a known behavior in version 2.0 PREMIUM, and it relates to the SCHEDULER for users with scheduled tasks (update checks and/or scans).

The developers have mentioned that this behavior will be changed in a future release, so that NO MBAM services will start with Windows, if the user configures MBAM not to start with Windows.

We do not know the ETA for that change.

OTOH, configuring MBAM Premium NOT to start with Windows reduces one's real-time protection.

So, the default setting, with "Start with Windows" ENABLED, is the recommended configuration.

    Thanks,

  3. Hello and welcome, edthemalwarehead:

I am not among them, but plenty of folks run MBAM Premium on Win 8.1.

There are no inherent problems on that platform.

    So, let's start here:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  4. Hi:

MBAM Premium 2.x pretty much runs silently, in the background, from the system account, including all scheduled tasks (update checks and clean, scheduled scans).

Depending on one's settings, one would never/rarely see the main dashboard, or even notification popups, unless there were something noteworthy and important (outdated databases, malware or non-malware detections, etc).

MBAM Free is a manual, on-demand scanner with NO real-time protection. The user must manually open the GUI, update databases, scan, etc.

So, without a bit more information about what you are seeing, it's hard to know for sure what you are seeing. :(

In order for us to better help you:

    1. Please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    2. AND, if possible, please attach a screen shot of the "main window" pop-up you are seeing.
    3. AND, please tell us: would you like to revert to the Free, manual, on-demand version, OR would you like to upgrade to the Premium, paid, real-time version?  (The reason for asking is so that we can provide tailored and specific advice to meet your needs.)

NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

    Thanks,

  5. Hi:

Actually, MBAM Premium is designed specifically to run in real-time, alongside all of the major Anti-virus (AV) applications.
MBAM provides complementary, layered protection against zero-hour and zero-day threats not detected by the standard AVs.
But MBAM is not an AV, so one still needs a robust AV, either free or paid.

Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

MBAM Free (or MBAM Premium run with its major real-time protection modules disabled) would only be a manual, on-demand scanner.

As such, it would provide no real-time protection to help PREVENT infection.

It would only be able to REMOVE an infection that is already on the system.

KIS/KAV/PURE do not offer "free" versions.

So, there is no "Premium" product -- once the trial version expires, one needs to purchase the program.

KIS/KAV/PURE all provide real-time protection (IOW there is no such thing as "on demand" KIS, KAV, or PURE). :)

MBAM  Premium should work just fine alongside KIS or KAV or PURE.
Many users do not find it necessary to set mutual exclusions between them.
But, if you wish to do so, to be pro-active and to minimize the chance that MBAM and KIS/KAV/PURE will bump into each other.....

The attached screenshot shows how to add the Kaspersky folder to the MBAM malware exclusions.
And the text below lists the MBAM files to add to the Kaspersky exclusions.

    Thanks,
    ----------

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

  6. Hello and welcome:

I was recently given a copy of Malwarebytes Premium by a friend who has no need for 3 PC licenses.

    Unfortunately, that's not legal.

The 3 PCs for a consumer subscription license must be in the same family/household.

They cannot be transferred to different persons.

You'll need to purchase your own license for your PC.

If you check at Newegg, Amazon and other, REPUTABLE online vendors, you might still be able to find a 1-PC lifetime license for sale.

(Avoid ebay and other sites, though, as they do not sell valid licenses.)

    Sorry about that.

  7. Hello and welcome: :)

It's hard to say without more information.
It could be a software conflict, corrupt files, bad disk sectors, malware, hardware problems, etc.

    Let's start here, please:

    • Please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

If you do get to step #2, it might help to see an MBAM scan log or 2, as well as the other diagnostic logs.
Instructions for attaching the SCAN logs are below.

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,
    --------------------

    How to get scan logs:
(Export log to save as a txt file for posting in the forum when requested)

    • Open MBAM.
    • Click on the HISTORY tab > APPLICATION LOGS.
    • Double-click on the SCAN LOG which shows the date and time of the scan just performed (or the one you are asked to post).
    • Click EXPORT.
    • Click TEXT FILE (*.txt)
    • In the "Save File" dialog box which appears, click on DESKTOP.
    • In the FILE NAME box, type a name for your scan log.
    • A message box named "File Saved" should appear, stating that "Your file has been successfully exported".
    • Click OK.
    • Attach the saved log to your next reply.

  9. Hi:

I haven't yet upgraded to KIS2015 on my rigs (they've only recently fixed an important bug with Thunderbird) and it appears that the GUI has changed a bit.
And the KB for KIS2015 looks a bit incomplete.

However, that looks like the right idea. :)
The screen shot below shows the AV (KIS) added to MBAM exclusions.
The text below lists the MBAM files to exclude in KIS (or you can just do so directly by excluding all the MBAM processes listed in the KIS application control).
And here is the relevant KB topic from KL support: http://support.kaspersky.com/11157

Please feel free to post back if you need more help.

  10. Hi:

Are you referring to a Promo Code to use to PURCHASE Malwarebytes (MBAM) Premium 2.x from the Malwarebytes online store?

(MBAM Pro version 1.x changed to MBAM Premium for version 2.x in March of 2014.)

If so, we'll have to wait for a staff member to weigh in.

I do not see a "promo code" field on the purchase page.

It may be that you need to enter your purchase information FIRST, on the purchase page, before the opportunity will be presented to enter such a code??

If not, perhaps you can tell us when and where you obtained this promo code,  just to be sure it is legit?

Or perhaps it's for a different vendor, such as Newegg?

    Thanks,

P.S. The mod team will probably move this thread to the MBAM Help section. No worries, though. ;)

  11. Hello:

    Welcome.

We cannot work on malware diagnosis and removal in this particular section of the forum.

At the moment, there is a broken link for "directions here" in this pinned topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers. :(
So, here are the steps, with working links:

    1. Please start with the advice here: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers. It explains the options for free, expert help.
    2. When you get to the part (in a currently broken link) to "directions here", please go here and follow the instructions: I'm infected - What do I do now?
    3. Then please start a NEW, separate topic (with the requested scan logs attached) here: Malware Removal Help

    Thanks,

  12. Hello again:

Sorry to hear you are having updating problems again.

There is no way to know what is happening without some routine troubleshooting and data.

A couple of easy things to check:
    >>First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.
    >>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

    >>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating MBAM as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE (just the one reply, not the entire thread). Please post back if you need help with that.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Please be patient waiting for a reply -- today is the start of a long holiday weekend in the U.S., where many forum volunteers and MBAM staff members are based.

    Thanks,

  13. Hi:

Re: scan type -- Threat scan should take only several minutes on most systems, but, of course, there are many factors that determine that. Even so, it ought not to slow your browser.  Scanning of other drives (external, NAS) *will* be slow and probably will consume resources.

Re: "older", I was referring to a system with an older CPU and/or minimal RAM.  Your system would seem to be newer and sufficiently robust.

Re: both of these, I was just looking for possible explanations for your issue, as we don't see (m)any similar reports here, even though you have reported this issue many times over the past several months in different areas of the forum. :)

    Re: your logs.

    1. Your mbam-check log shows several PUPs in quarantine.

Without the full Addition.txt log, it's hard to say, but there might be other malware remnants on the system that could be contributing to your issues.

It also shows that MBAM was installed on October 13

In order to get to a known, clean starting point for additional troubleshooting, we would respectfully suggest that you please follow the original advice to cleanly reinstall, following these steps: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

Doing so often resolves many minor issues.

    2. The "Addition.txt" is severely truncated for some reason.

So, please re-run FRST, to see if we can get a complete log this time.

    >>>As you have already run FRST once, please place a checkmark in the "Addition.txt" option BEFORE you run it again.

Then, please post back with BOTH logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) attached to your next reply.

It might also help to see a fresh checkresults.txt log from mbam-check, AFTER you reinstall MBAM, please.

    3. What antivirus and firewall software are you running? (The information is missing from the truncated log :( .)

    Thanks,

  14. Hi:

It sounds as if you might be running "Custom" (previously called "Full") scans of your entire system, and/or you have an older system with older hardware?

    Let's start with routine troubleshooting:

    • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
    • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
    • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

  15. Hi:

    >>> Mod team, this is a duplicate, cross-post for this one -- https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/161506-removal-of-pos-registry-hack-for-xp-with-regassassin/
    ;)

    @Chris219:

There's no need to create duplicate topics. :)

Today is a holiday in the US, where many MBAM staffers and forum volunteers are based.

Please try to be patient, and wait for someone to reply.

One of the expert forum members will be along as soon as possible.

As this is the Malwarebytes company forum operated primarily for the support of its products and users, another option *might* be to try posting at a more "general" computer forum, such as bleepingcomputer or many others?

    Just a thought.

Thanks very much for your patience,

  16. Hi:

"Non-malware detected" means that the scans are picking up PUPs and PUMs.

More about PUPs: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats, and should they be deleted?

If you don't have MBAM configured to automatically quarantine them, then MBAM will only "warn" you about them.

You need to open the dashboard > scan, and then deal with them, as you wish (either quarantine/remove or ignore/keep).

Alternatively, you can change the Detection and Protection settings to automatically quarantine them (see screen shot).

Sometimes, a user has installed the PUP intentionally and wants to keep it.

Personally, I would not want any of that junk on my computer.

Eventually, they can get you into a real malware infection.

If you are not sure what to quarantine/remove and what to ignore/keep, then I suggest the following, to get free, expert help reviewing your scans and cleaning your system:

    1. Start with the advice here: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers
    2. It includes advice in the "directions here" (which is a broken link at the moment) to go here: I'm infected - What do I do now?
    3. And then a NEW topic (with the requested scan logs attached) needs to be created here, please: Malware Removal Help

    Thanks,

    post-29793-0-20287300-1417109815_thumb.p

  17. Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

    FYI

At the moment, there is a broken link for "directions here" in the above-mentioned pinned topic. :(

So, here are the steps, with working links:

    1. Start with the advice here: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

    2. It includes advice to go here: I'm infected - What do I do now?

    3. And then a NEW topic (with the requested scan logs attached) needs to be created here, please: Malware Removal Help

  18. Hi:

It was a surprise to me though that you have to deactivate MBAM to run MBAR,

    See here for explanation:

    https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/160606-anti-rootkit-scan-failed-error/#entry906661

    https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/160606-anti-rootkit-scan-failed-error/#entry907274

Short version: MBAR-beta is version 1.08, while the integrated ARK module in MBAM is version 1.05.

Problem will be resolved when the integrated ARK module in MBAM gets updated.

FWIW, routine running of MBAR-beta on a system not thought to be infected is probably overkill?

    Thanks,
