  1. Thanks again. I also have a question about MB Premium and ??? I've been using Norton for years. And have been using both since starting MB Premium. What's the general feeling now about needing to run anything other than MB and Windows Defender? I can start a new post for this if it would draw more answers. My Norton subscription is good through next March so this is not critical to know at this time.
  2. Thanks. That's what I needed to know. The guess the problems I read about where on Newegg reviews noting if you have a subscription problem, MB support may not be of any help to you. I re-read that after posting this topic..
  3. And to clarify, instead of using automatic renewal, it would be purchasing a new licence through a third party like Amazon or Newegg which offer 3 PC yearly licenses for a much lower price than the auto renewal from MB. So, do you lose anything by doing this?
  4. Sorry, my misnomer. MB Premium...ie the version for home use.. paid for yearly.
  5. I tried to search the forum for this but couldn't come up with the pertinent posts about this although I swear I've read about this in the past. I've been using MB Pro for a little over 2 years now and just had an automatic renewal so this would really be about what happens next year. I thought I read if you purchase a MB Pro license from a third party (Amazon or Newegg, etc) that you are "persona non grata" when it comes to any help you might need from MB support. Is that really true? Do you lose anything when you renew that way? Is the benefit of renewing automatically with MB, even though the price is higher, warrant doing it that way over buying through a third party? Thanks for any insight into this.
  6. Again, thanks for all the replies. This all gets back to my original question of why Malwarebytes didn't stop this. I fully understand why now. I switched both my PC's to use the new Chromium based Edge (Dev version) and added the Malwarebytes extension from the Google store. So far it's working great and I would have to agree with some articles I've read in PC magazines that this may truly give Chrome a run it's money. It's fast. I like the screen display and it can use any extension Chrome can use. With safe web browsing practices and the new MB extension I feel pretty comfortable right now. I've been building my own PC's for over 15 years now and have only encountered this "tech web scam" twice. Once on my PC (about 4 years ago) and this occurrence on my wife's PC. I've been running Norton since sometime in the 90's and MB Pro for the last 2 years and have never had a virus or any other "infection" problem. With safe browsing practices being the #1 priority and the mutiple layers of protection I've installed, I feel pretty comfortable right now. I also use Macrium Reflect for backups and keep a good image on both an internal HD and a detachable USB drive that is away from the PC when not in use. It's been tested on doing a restore and it also works great so I know I can always go back a few days or so before if any disaster strikes. Thanks again for all the good answers in this thread.
  7. Thanks for the replies, but it did hijack the browser. Restarting the PC or using task manager to close the browser did not stop it from coming right back when the browser was opened again. With the browser open, you are unable to click on any function in the browser (like closing a tab). I know it's a scam. And again, to get rid of it, I sent her an email with a random website link in it. By opening that link THRU her email, it opened the browser in a different tab which allowed me to then close the bad site's tab. I then cleared the history and cache. Problem solved.
  8. Sorry to ask one more question about this but it may help me to understand a little more how MB Premium works. With the redirected website on the screen blasting away to call support, your PC is locked, don't shut down, etc, I ran a MB threat scan and it showed no detections. I think I understand why MB Premium didn't stop her from going to the bad site, but I was under the impression that running a scan would remove the problem. Since it didn't, I can only assume the problem has to be "in" your PC and not on a website. But then again, I'm assuming, MB Premium wouldn't allow the malware (PUP or whatever) to get into your PC? Thanks for all the responses to this and for any future posts explaining how and why MB Premium protects you.
  9. I really don't need to keep this post going, but there's something I noticed on my wife's Facebook page. I don't use Facebook so I've never seen this. She's been using Facebook for year's and this is the first time she's had a "browser hijack". If you look at the screenshot I posted, the name over the picture (Maklasnow) and the "link" below the picture (Ravicente) don't match. I looked at a bunch of "sponsored" posts on her Facebook page and all the other ones I've seen have the SAME name above that matches a .com link under the picture. The bad one she clicked on doesn't say .com for the bottom link, but says .live and is a different name from the top one. I can't say if this is a full proof method to detect a malware link but it sure gives one a possible clue. But I'm sure Facebook would know this? (I'm being facetious saying that.) And of course, she now knows not to use that as criteria for not clicking on it. Just curious since this the first time this has happened to her if other Facebook users have this problem on a more frequent basis. Or is Facebook really good about catching these things?
  10. I've cleared the browser history and cache in order to get rid of the alert, again, by having the browser open indirectly through an email link to a random webpage and then closing the bad tab and clearing the history. I'm sorry, I didn't note the bad URL before deleting. And @Porthos. Thank you also. She is now aware not to open a sponsored link or if she sees anything from "Maklasnow" or "ravicente.live" IF this happens again, IF being the operative word, and I write down the URL of the bad site, is this all Malwarebytes needs to know to stop this in the future?
  11. Thanks for the quick response. I didn't now if "Maklasnow" or "ravicente.live" would direct anyone to the culprit? She clicked on the bold face print to get to open the hijack. I'm not familiar with Facebook so I don't know how to report it to them or if I even can??
  12. I don't have the URL for what she clicked on but this is a screenshot from Facebook of what she clicked on to get the Microsoft alert. I KNOW it is fake but have no plans to re click on this site. Can anyone figure what Malwarebytes needs to do to stop this??
  13. My wife opened a post in Facebook that hijacked her browser (Edge) with a flashing alert from Microsoft saying her PC was infected, sending spam emails, etc. A lot of junk stuff. All buttons were inop so it was necessary to restart the PC. I ran a Malwarebytes Scan and a Full System Norton scan which came up with nothing. Opening Edge again, took her to the same Alert. She restarted again and I sent her an email with a link to a website page and had her click on the link. That opened Edge on the page I sent her and you could see her home page and the Microsoft Alert tabs. I cleared her history and all is okay. I knew to do this from past experience. My question is: Why didn't Malwarebytes catch this? Doesn't it stop bad links inside Facebook?
  14. Thanks for the quick response. I figured it was something simple, I just didn't know what the protocol for that was here. I guess I always have seen that bold dot because I hadn't seen all the posts. I tried and read all the posts in a topic, exited the forums and then came back and the dot was gone from that topic. I've been running the premium version now for almost 2 years and have never encountered any of the problems I read about here. Lucky or not running a complicated mix of programs that may cause a glitch. I run this in conjunction with Norton and haven't had any program conflicts or encountered any malware or viruses so I feel very comfortable right now. Thank you again.
  15. I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question so if a moderator needs to move it, please do so. I may be missing this, but when I log in to this forum, I see all the topics but don't see any way to know that I've viewed ALL responses to that topic. I know I can mark something "read", but if I view a post and come back later, I have no idea if I've read any additional posts since my last visit. Other forums (Norton and Macrium Reflect to name two) either show how many posts in a topic you haven't read or make the topic bold face to signify there's something new. Is that function here? It may be something simple that I've missed but would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you.
  16. Just an FYI. Updated to Win 10 1803 build 17134.319 a few minutes ago. Then updated Malwarebytes Premium to 3.6.1. Rebooted several times and no errors noted. Checked Windows event viewer and no errors associated with Malwarebytes were noted. So for the moment, the update went smoothly and the program is running with no errors.
  17. I guess the real way to ask this question is Malwarebytes Pro activation based on your PC system or is it tied to your registry? If tied to the registry, when moving the entire physical drive to a new system nothing would need to be done. If system based, like Windows, then deactivation would be needed. I will deactivate anyway unless I hear otherwise but just curious how it works.
  18. Thanks. Good information. Just for the heck of it, I installed a spare SSD that had MY system on it to see how updating the new motherboard drivers would go. It went fine. I wasn't connected to the internet, but did open Malwarebytes to see what it would do. It opened fine and said my system was protected. A minute or two later, it gave me a red X saying I needed to update the definitions, etc. I didn't notice what the activation status was, but everything was green before the warning. So I guess if it worked for me it will probably be okay when I move her SSD sometime later this week. But I will deactivate it first. Thanks again.
  19. I am in the process of building a new PC for my wife. I will be moving her entire physical C drive, where Malwarebytes is installed, to the new build which of course will have a different motherboard. Will Malwarebytes see this as being installed on a new PC? Will it need to be re-registered? Or should I deactivate it beforehand? If so, what's the best way to do this? Thanks for any info about this.
  20. @dcollins I guess I'm anal, but I use the little tray icon on the right to open Malwarebytes main panel fairly often to view reports, check versions, etc. That extra line there showing a blocked website and asking if I want to add it as an exclusion is just another thing that could be accidently clicked and also dirties up the view. I just thought there ought to be an easy way to get rid of it if you don't want to exclude it. Not a big thing but it's like a tic that gets under your skin for me. I leave my PC on 24/7.
  21. Thanks. I'm not worried about how long it takes as long as it goes away on it's own. I never waited long enough to see. I just added it and then deleted it. But that didn't make any sense to me as to how it should or could work.
  22. There must be an easy answer to this, but right now it is not obvious to me. When I visit (seldom) a website that Malwarebytes blocks, I immediately get an option to add this site to my exclusions when I right click on the tray icon. But what if I don't want to add this as an exclusion. How do I get rid of that prompt? If I right click on the add exclusion prompt, it adds it right away. Then I have to go into exclusions and delete it. I'm sure there must be an easier way to just delete or ignore the prompt (just an added line in the pop up) without having to add it first???? Thanks in advance for any advice on this.
  23. Duh.... thank you. I never realized that was clickable!
  24. This has probably been answered before but I'm just curious why when you view "reports" that they are not in any logical order; like by date?
