  1. Thanks for your reply. To clarify, the ads DID appear on all of the websites I visited while using Chrome, but did not appear on ANY sites using Internet Explorer. After posting my query here, I thought to run CCleaner and after doing so, the Verizon audio ad (or any audio ad) has not reappeared. I am thinking perhaps CCleaner cleaned out some nefarious thing in my Chrome browser. But I don't know why MBAM did not catch it. Anyway, if it does return, I will post in Malware Removal Help, as you recommended .............Thais
  2. I use IE11 for 95% of my internet browsing and have no problem with it. Today I used Chrome and about 1 minute after connecting, started hearing an audio ad by Verizon promising $300 to "come back to Verizon" . It repeated 3 times and then I disconnected - don't know if it would have continued to play forever if I stayed on it or not. Anybody know what is happening, how to get rid of it? I ran MBAM Premium and it didn't find anything. Any solutions or advice welcome. ..........Thais
  3. Followup question: After I ran the post cleanup procedures ( DelFix), I discovered that my Classic Shell start button was gone and had reverted back to the Windows 8 start button. Somebody installed the Classic Shell for me many many months ago and I don't know how to get it back now. Help! ...............Thais
  4. PC is behaving very nicely. Have received 3-4 more inbound detections but I understand now that inbound detections only means that MBAM is doing its job. The one outbound detection on 1/30 at 1:55pm is the only one of concern, I think, and that has not appeared again. I guess I don't understand what an outbound detection actually is. What would I be doing that might somehow send out malware? Is it correct that I do not need to report inbound detections but should report inbound detections? I take it that none of those logs showed anything wrong with my computer? I think that you folks that man these boards are great. Your instructions are so precise, clear and orderly that even a novice like me can follow. Thank you..................Thais
  5. OK - here is my fixlog.txt file. What does it tell you? After rebooting and clicking on the Internet Explorer icon, which normally takes me to my RoadRunner home page, it this time took me to an MSN page. Please tell me what you found and if anything is wrong with my computer. Thanks................Thais Fixlog.txt
  6. When the FRST64.exe downloaded to my computer it was put in the "Downloads" folder, not the desktop - so both the FRST.txt and Addition.txt files were created there also. Should I now download the fixlist.txt to my "Downloads" folder? Where is the "Ft" icon? Sorry to be so dense about this - I am not very computer talented. ..............Thais
  7. FRST.txtAddition.txtOK - I ran the scan and am attaching the two files here:
  8. This is a continuation of a situation discussed in the following thread: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/164154-malicious-website-protection/ I was requested to move the discussion here. I am using a Dell 8700 XPS machine with Windows 8.1. The security programs that I use are: Windows Defender (which came on the machine); MBAM Premium 2.0.4.1028 (which I purchased 6 weeks ago); SpywareBlaster 1-28-15 database loaded and no items have protection disabled; and CCleaner v5.02.5101(64-bit) As mentioned in my last post in the old thread, after I downloaded FRST64.exe and attempted to run it, the screen darkened and I got a message that Windows Smart Screen prevented it from starting. So I am unsure what to do now or even if I have a problem. Please advise. Thanks..................Thais
  9. In preparation to opening a topic in the Malware Removal Help section, I downloaded FRST64.exe (although the site gave warning that it might harm my computer). It didn't give a choice where to save it - just put it in my "Downloads" folder. When I double-clicked on it to run it, the screen darkened and got msg "Windows Smart Screen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk." (yes, I have 64 bit system) (Prior to this, I had read some of the advice in the "Available Assistance for Possibly......" that you mentioned above and read that I should turn ON the Smart Screen Filter.) So - I don't know what to do now. I'm not sure what your comment "If the outbound only incident in the above attachment is not directly related to any deliberate action with the IP address on your part thru IE......" means. I didn't try to send any malicious anything to anybody. I don't remember exactly WHAT I was doing on the computer at that time (1:55pm on 1/30) So what should I do now, coach? Thanks......................Thais
  10. Malicious.txt I never knew about those logs before so have been perusing them this afternoon. Since January 18th, there have been 17-18 of those very same "detections" - all with the same IP address and all "inbound". Today, however, there was a detection with a different address and this time shown as "outbound". I am attaching it. Perhaps I am paranoid - I don't know enough about how these things work to know if I should be concerned or not. Does MBAM want us to post the Protection Logs whenever we receive one of those "blocked" alerts? Thanks for your patience in dealing with an untechnical user ............Thais PS: Is there a way to edit a post? A couple of posts back, I wanted to go back and clarify something but didn't see how to edit.
  11. I question this, also, because I clicked on the link and upon arriving at the anti-hacker-alliance site, immediately got msg from MBAM that "Malicious Website blocked." Should we be posting the Malicious.txt file from History whenever we receive one of these "blocked" messages? or just assume MBAM took care of it and go on about our business Thanks...................Thais.
  12. Sorry, I guess I didn't attach it correctly. Will try again: Malicious.txt
  13. I recently upgraded to MBAM Premium and have received a couple of alerts(?) saying "Malicious Website blocked". I don't know what this means. Does it mean the website I am currently on? If I am already on it, it didn't block it. Just a few minutes ago I had been on a site describing cervical spine x-rays for several minutes when I got this "Malicious Website blocked" message. Obviously, it hadn't blocked that site because I was on it. I guess I just don't understand how this works. Please educate me. Thanks...........Thais PS: I love the premium version I just recently bought - it goes and scans frequently without me having to do anything.
  14. I maintain a personal web page - nothing nefarious on it, strictly family and pets kind of stuff. I have a counter on the page which shows the country the visitor was from. Normally, I just see a few visits from friends and family here in United States. But in the last 3 months, I have noticed a big increase in visits from foreign countries, mostly China and Brazil but also Canada, Chile, France, Spain, Philipeans, Australia, Urugay, Bolovia and Italy. I know absolutely nobody from those counries or have any kind of relationship with any foreign country so I am kind of at a loss to know why search engines would be visiting my site. Is this anything I should be concerned about? Thanks. ..........Thais
  15. I use MBAM Free and when I went to update it today, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade to 2.0.2.1012 and I said yes and it went ahead and downloaded and installed it with absolutely no problem. I LOVE MBAM!!! It always just WORKS!! A poster above mentioned not liking a cluttered desktop and neither do I. What I do is make a "maintenance" folder and put all of my security type shortcuts into it. Cuts down on the clutter. This forum is always so very cordial (not to mention helpful) and I appreciate that. ................Thais
  16. Never mind, never mind - I just say your response in the other thread. Not only are you guys good, you're also fast
  17. Awhile back, the folks here at MBAM helped me remove a bunch of PUP's. They (the tools) are still sitting in my Download Folder: Adw.Cleaner.exe; Addition.txt; FRST.txt; FRST64.3xe; JRT.exe. I was told in another thread that I should remove them, that it might require more than just deleting them. Can someone give me instructions, please. Thanks.............Thais
  18. "one of the staff of experts will be happy to assist you with properly removing the tools (some require more than just a simple uninstall)" Oh - ok - I was just going to delete them. I'll start another thread. Also need to learn how to use the quote feature ............Thais
  19. Awhile back MBAM helped me remove some PUP's from my computer. The process downloaded Adw.Cleaner.exe; Addition.txt; FRST.txt; FRST64.exe; and JRT.exe into my computer. They are sitting there in my Download folder and I don't know if I should remove them or not.?? Dumb question, I guess but they say if you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question. Second thing - am thinking to upgrade to the Pro version from the Free version. Is all I have to do is click on the "Buy Premium" button? Then after I pay, how does the Free version become the Premium version? My Free version was just upgraded to version 2.0.1.1004 yesterday. I think I remember seeing a choice of 2-3 types of scans to choose from but today when I went to update and run a scan, it just ran in Threat mode and I didn't see where there was a choice to make. Am I not looking in the right place. Thanks. This Malwarebytes is the most organized program I have ever seen. You guys are good. Thais PS: I do think some of the comments on the scanner are a little much. Scarey, bold words are a little off-putting
  20. I am currently using Malwarebytes Free 1.75.0.1300 and am thinking I will purchase the Pro version. Will I need to remove the Free version before downloading the Pro version? Also, will I get a lifetime use of the program? Thanks.............Thais
  21. I am currently using Malwarebytes Free 1.75.0.1300 and am thinking I would like to purchase the Pro version. Do I need to uninstall the Free version before downloading the Pro version?. And, if I buy the Free version now, will I have a lifetime use?
  22. I, too, have a Windows 8.1 machine. Was bought as Windows 8 and then upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have used Malwarebytes AntiMalware Free for years on previous machines and now, also on this machine with no problems. I am considering purchasing the Malwarebytes Antimalware Pro and am wondering if anyone is still having issues with Win 8.1 and Pro? Also, does the license cost cover lifetime use or does it have to be renewed yearly? Thanks...............thais
  23. Hi Gringo: I went to the first site (bleepingcomputer) and it said "This program does not work on Windows 8.1 at this time." (and I have 8.1) so I think I am going to just abandon this query for now. Other than the User Account Control message that appears when first booting ("Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer: service.exe from Search Safer, Inc") and which I just say "no" to - the rest of my computing activities seem to be behaving ok. I ran a Windows Defender full scan on 2/26 and it came up clean and a Malwarebytes full scan yesterday and it came up clean, so I am going to just see how it goes now. Thank you so much for your help. You guys are a class act. ..............Thais
  24. Sorry to be a pain but I am a Nervous Nellie. If I disable my virus and malware programs (Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster) won't tons of viruses and spyware, etc immediately attack my computer? ..............Thais
