  1. Windows firewall can't be removed and it shouldn't be removed anyhow. Any third-party firewall you install will disable it anyhow and if it does not you should disable it yourself If you remove the third-party firewall and do not install a different one, Windows firewall needs to be enabled again.
  2. I will leave you with this for now, and let me know if you have any questions about anything The following are my recommendations for antivirus protection along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding): Kaspersky (free 30 day trial) The official support forum for this product can be found here Avira Antivir (free for home use) The official support forum for this product can be found here ESET NOD32 (free 30 day trial) The official support forum for this product can be found here Microsoft Security Essentials (free for home use) The official support forum for this product can be found here Avast! 3. Ah. Are these all home machines or? Malwarebytes should not conflict with any AV program if it does, you just need to add the necessary exclusions: Step 3: Exclude Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's Files and Folders From Other Active Security Programs: For Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.
  4. Unfortunately, some AV's are unable to catch infections such as this one, which is why using an antivirus and an antimalware product together is recommended. Do you have BOTH McAfee and Symantec/Norton antivirus programs installed on your computer? This is not recommend, as they can cause conflicts and actually lower your security.
  5. And just to add, I was also recommending that you go there to ensure that your machine is totally clean, but if you are confident it is then visit the Malware Removal Forum if you want to be sure...
  6. Alrighty. I was just suggesting that you visit the Malware Removal Forum prior to purchasing anything from the machine in question, as this would be in your best interest not to purchase anything from an infected machine. Or you could just purchase it from a non-infected machine too. At any rate, Malwarebytes is a great choice to add to your security setup along with your antivirus. What are you currently using for an Antivirus by the way? I didn't see it in the thread here, but perhaps I missed it. And I'm glad that I was able to be of help
  7. It's no huge deal about not using add reply, it just makes the forum much easier for everyone to read, it can get very confusing if everyone quotes everyone else. Well thank you for purchasing! Prior to doing so, though, I recommend that you do this first, just to ensure that you are clean, then proceed with purchasing Malwarebytes once you are confirmed to be clean Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help. If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you. After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. Thank you
  8. Please update Malwarebytes to its latest definitions on another machine that you have access to and pull off rules.ref as outlined in the link I gave you, and lets see if that works so that you can update Malwarebytes
  9. Awesome! Also, if you are able to purchase Malwarebytes, it would have prevented this nasty from getting in in the first place Malwarebytes is a one-time purchase of $24.95 for home users, and offers EXCELLENT protection along with your antivirus program. If you still need help after that, please read the following to finish get yourself cleaned up: Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. 10. Hello imersion, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org Please don't purchase anything from this machine quite yet until you are sure its clean! Do you have access to another machine that is clean? If not, please see Issue #4 here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138 Edit: Please try Buttons's idea below mine, otherwise proceed with my instructions.
  11. Okay, so the machine in question is your home computer, correct? As you should not be making any changes to a work machine without prior authorization. Please just use the ADD REPLY button when you reply, I'll know what you're referring to as long as you make it clear
  12. dkinkley, I'll be around about another two hours and then I won't be back on till tomorrow some time most likely... If you aren't on before I leave for the evening I'll be posting some antivirus recommendations for you... as you should not be without an antivirus!
  13. I know its an important part of Mbam, YoKenny1 He or she asked about turning it off if there were sites he/she wanted to go to, and I told him/her how to. Of course I do not recommend turning off IP protection at all unless absolutely necessary and I should have said so in my post to him/her like I usually do. I apologize for any confusion.
  14. There is nothing in Programs (uninstall programs) that says Norton or Symantec still, is there? If so, you should remove those BEFORE running the removal tool.
  15. Okay, well just to be sure, please run the Norton Removal tool, restart your computer, and then we can go from there You can download it here.
  16. The prompt would be telling you that you need to restart in order to fully remove whatever items were found. Malwarebytes will ask you to do this if you need to restart in order to completely remove items. So your computer didn't come with a trial of Norton or McAfee or something? Reason I am asking is because as well as completely removing AVG, if you did previously have any other AV products, it would be a good idea to run removal tools for those programs as well.
  17. Okay, so you have no AVG program currently installed or running on your computer then? Which version did you end up determining that was installed? It might help to run the uninstaller once more, I can give you the link again if you need it. What did Malwarebytes quarantine? Don't delete them for now but do LEAVE them in quarantine. If Malwarebytes asked you to restart afterwards, did you do so at the prompt? This is very important to do. Would you like to continue on with using AVG or would you like some other recommendations? Have you EVER had any other antivirus software installed on this computer? Also, are you looking for a free or paid version of an antivirus?
  18. so it sounds like everything is okay here now? (at least in terms of these error messages that you are getting) Let me get this right, you installed a 64 bit version of AVG instead of the 32 bit?
  19. You didn't need to uninstall Malwarebytes You can temporarily turn off IP blocking by right-clicking on the red & white M tray icon and clicking on IP Protection. I think you should do a clean-install of Malwarebytes (make sure you have your ID and Key written down first) to see if that may help sort this out... sounds like you may have messed up the installation? If you are having any problems with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware protection please do the following. 1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel. 2. Restart your computer (very important). 3. Download and run this utility. 4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to). 5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via e-mail. And noknojon is right.. you should really avoid going to and downloading from sites such as the Pirate Bay, rapidshare, mega upload, etc.. Let me know if Malwarebytes is working correctly after doing this. One more thing, forgot to add: If you got a bubble saying "Malwarebytes has successfully blocked access to malicious IP (then the #)" then yes, it was Malwarebytes blocking access.
  20. Are you running the paid version of Malwarebytes? And are you talking about IP blocks to websites that you are trying to get onto?
  21. Okay. Can you update Malwarebytes and then run a quick scan? If you don't have it installed, please click here to download it
  22. And are you POSITIVE that you are running a 32 bit windows? go to your control panel and click on whatever the icon is that gives you information about your computer. (I can't remember what the name of it is for Vista but hopefully you know what I mean). You did run the 32 bit installer that I gave you the link to, correct?
  23. One more thing.. I THINK I may have found an answer as to those error codes... did you accidentally try to install a 64 bit version of AVG? You can tell because usually the installer will have 64 in the name of the .exe file. Up until this point, has your AVG been running correctly, updating correctly, and scanning correctly?
  24. Okay, before we go any further, please try the help offered on this helppage from the AVG website: http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum...4013#post_44013 Let me know how it goes!
  25. Hmm. You are without any antivirus protection then, currently, correct? If so, please do NOT do any other internet activity if at all possible except this forum until you have an antivirus in place once again. I am doing a little research and I'll get back to you! And you are most welcome
