Malwarebytes disabled

Recommended Posts

Hi:

Darn. I thought I already posted this, but I must have done something wrong in the post. Anyway I really need help asevery piece of protection I have (malwarebytes, Avast, and Zonealarm)have been shut down. I even tried deleting malwarebytes and then rebooted in safe mode, reinstalled and tried to run. It ran for about 3-4 seconds and then shutdown and won't restart.

Other symptoms include multiple blank page popups, hijack of the browser (firefox) so I can only enter through the cache, sometimes I lose all my icons, and when I go to reboot there is one program that won't shut down--hello4. Looking at other posts, there is probably more information that you need, bur I can't give you any logs, as nothing runs.

I also should mention that I'm not very "techie", so if you keep that in mind in your responses I'd appreciate it. I am good though at following directions though, so just tell me what to do and I'll do it.

I apologize. After I posted this I saw it farther down on the page. There doesn't seem to be a delete available (or I can't find it) or I would have just gotten this of this post. Again my apologies, it's been a frenzied day.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.

Thanks for the suggestion. However as meetioned I can't even open malawarebytes. I did get rid of the virus but my registry is completely fried so my next step is to rebuld the old hard drive. Not much fun, but it has to be done.

Thanks.

Sorry, I've been busy rebuilding my hard drive. By fried I meant that that I got so many registry errors the system had become unstable.

Go ahead and close the post though as I am almost done rebuilding the hard drive. Watch out for hello4 though as it put me down for the count. Thanks for the offer of help though, I just reached the point where I felt it was best to start over.

Thanks for letting me know.

I highly recommend the PRO version of MBAM; with it, it's likely that this issue would have been prevented in the first place.

Now that your computer seems to be in proper working order, please take the following steps to help prevent reinfection:

1) Download and install Javacool's SpywareBlaster, which will prevent malware from being installed on your computer. A tutorial on it can be found here.

2) Go to Windows Update frequently to get all of the latest updates (security or otherwise) for Windows.

3) Make sure your programs are up to date! Older versions may contain security risks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run Secunia's Software Inspector.

4) WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:

  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop

WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE.

5) Be sure to update your Antivirus and Antispyware programs often!

Finally, please also take the time to read Tony Klein's excellent article on: So How Did I Get Infected in the First Place?

Safe surfing,

Thank you for the advice. I shall heed it.

You are correct, I need to stop picking up the viruses in the first place. This was my second in two weeks and while I managed to deal with the first one, but I don't want to deal with very frustrating problems brought on by the second infection.

Again, thanks for the advice.
