error kiler remover

Hi exile,

I ran Spybot S & D and came up one instance of Error Killer and removed it. I think I was supposed to immunize before the scan, right. I didn't do that. Here is my latest MBAM scan:

  • Root Admin

Hi Kay and Welcome to Malwarebytes. It is the Holiday Season and help is quite limited right now.

I am on my way out of town soon but should return by Monday and assist you further.

Please run the following routines while I'm away and when I return I will assist you further.

Please run this AntiVirus utility

Download to the desktop: Dr.Web CureIt

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
    check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

When that is finished please run this again.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

When that is done please Restart the computer and after the restart run HJT and do a Scan and save log.

Post back all the logs and I'll review and assist you further on Monday.

Thank you for you time and patients.

I had problems running Dr. Web. It hung twice requiring a manual shutdown. It looked it was hanging up on Spysweeper in the express scan. I disabled Spysweeper and ran the program; but I'm afraid I messed up on the "Move Incurable" part and didn't get this done. The program didn't ask whether to move or cure the last entry. I ended up moving it and could not undo what I had done. Too late I realised that clicking on the "Cure" button was the only choice to "Move Incurable". Anyway here is the Dr. Web log and the HJT log:

Dr. Web.csv

ComcastToolbar.exe\data003;C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Downloads - Save\ComcastToolbar.exe;Tool.ProcessKill;;

ComcastToolbar.exe\data121;C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Downloads - Save\ComcastToolbar.exe;Adware.VMN;;

ComcastToolbar.exe\data144;C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Downloads - Save\ComcastToolbar.exe;Adware.Xbarre;;

ComcastToolbar.exe;C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Downloads - Save;Archive contains infected objects;Moved.;

register.exe;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scanner;Adware.Xbarre;Moved.;

Where are these moved to?

  • Root Admin

It's looking pretty good, how is the computer running now? Are there still indications of an infection?

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then RESTART the computer and AFTER the restart run HJT scan and save log.

Post back fresh MBAM and HJT logs.

Please uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 - The current version is 9

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Hi,

I ran JavaRa and then updated Java. I then ran Secunia to check if any other programs need to be updated; I updated Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash Player, but the scan indicates that I now have two versions of Adobe Flash Player and also two versions of Sun Java.

Secunia scan:

Okay, for now download a NEW fresh copy of JavaRa but don't run it quite yet.

Go into your Add/Remove and uninstall ALL versions of JAVA and FLASH (it could be Adobe or Macromedia)

Then restart your computer and when it starts back open up My Computer and browse to C:\Program Files\Java and try to remove the Java folder.

Then run the new copy of JavaRa and remove ALL old versions, but DO NOT install any updates.

Visit this link and download the manual FLASH removal tool How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Then run the following.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then RESTART your computer and run a new HJT scan and save log.

Post back both logs and I'll check it out.

I noticed: 02 BHO Java .dll file missing and two 016 DPF Symantec items. At one time, we had Norton Symantec but haven't used it for several years.

Thanks for your time and help.

well the logs don't currently show any infection. How is the computer running aside from the Excel crash?

Click on START -> RUN -> and type in EVENTVWR and click OK

Review the Event Logs for the Excel error and post back the information on it please.

Probably not too much else we can do about the Java for now, maybe in a few days the JavaRa updates will take care of this.

The Symantec files could have been from an Online Scan at one time.

Using HJT you can remove those entries. Start HJT and do a Scan Only.

check the entries you want to remove and click on FIX CHECKED

Hi,

I looked in the Event Viewer and there is an event ID 42 in the App log and event ID 27 in the system log. I didn't get the sense that these were anything serious considering that I was running the programs you requested and rebooting several times. There was another event ID 8021: "The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\JANEDOE-PC on the network \Device\........ The data is the error code."

The JaneDoe-PC is my computer. The computer we have been working on is my husbands. The two computers are connected to a Linksys router and do not share anything. I'm not sure what to think of this event. All the events were yellow warnings.

We had to use IE to access a particular website; so I updated Flash Player and Java. The Secunia scan indicates that everything is updated.

My husband has 3 Excel spreadsheets open right now and I haven't heard him complain about the program. I'll check the computer tomorrow to see how it is running.

Here's one last HJT for you to look at:

Please note the Holidays are here and I may be unavailable for a few days or more.

Please be patient, I've not forgotten you and will resume assistance when I return

Many of the other helpers are also visiting Family and Friends so please be patient.

Please let me know how things are going and I'll try to assist you further as needed when I return.

If Excel continues to have issues you may need to do a REPAIR install via the Control Panel, Add/Remove if you have the install media.

The computer seems to be running OK. If Excel starts to cause problems, I can do a repair or re-install as we have the original install CDs for MS Office. Thank you very much for your time and help.

Okay Kay, you're quite Welcome.

Please run MBAM go to the update tab and update it again, then do a Quick Scan and fix anything found.

RETART your computer again and AFTER the restart run HJT Scan and save log.

Post back both logs and if all clean I'll provide some recommendation and close this topic.

If you want assistance with other issues with the pc you can then open a new topic in the PC Help forum.

I did have to uninstall Spybot S&D because I was not able to open PDF files. But this is another issue and I will deal with it at another time.

Thanks again.

Highly recommend you visit the Microsoft UPDATE site and get ALL critical updates. There should be some to update your IE6 to a newer version than you currently have.

All of these programs should operate on Windows 2000 that you have, but if you do decide to use one or more make sure they do support it as it's now rather old.

At this time your system appears to be clean. Nothing else in the logs indicates that you are still infected.

Now that you appear to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Download it from
here
. Just choose a mirror and off you go.

Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly
here

Install SpyWare Blaster

Download it from
here

Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster
here

Install WinPatrol

Download it from
here

Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works
here

Install FireTrust SiteHound

You can find information and download it from
here

Install hpHosts

Download it from
here

hpHosts is a community managed and maintained hosts file that allows an additional layer of protection against access to ad,

tracking and malicious websites. This prevents your computer from connecting to these untrusted sites

by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your own local computer.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect your system. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must.
