Win 7 Anti-spyware 2011 problems and more

Recommended Posts

I am pretty close to tears as I've been trying to get this nasty thing off my laptop all day. I attempted using Superantispyware.exe to rid this horrible item from my system and I think it only made it worse. It did find tracking cookies and the trojan. The popup warnings are gone but I still cannot run any executable file. What comes us is an "Open with" screen with Internet explorer or Windows Media Center as the options. Clicking either doesn't bring solutions.

I am running Win 7 Ultimate.

I have tried renaming the mbam file to explorer.exe and the same thing happens.

I tried going into a cmd prompt but the same thing happens.

The only way I can get into anything on my computer (and then it doesn't run or open the files) is the run prompt. I can access my drives there.

I have several photo shoots to edit and as long as my laptop is not operating, I will not make deadline.

I am praying you can help. I definitely feel stupid as my CIS degree is pretty useless to me right now.

Thanks,

Lisa

Greetings :)

We don't work on malware removal in this part of the forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

If you prefer to be assisted via email you may contact support@malwarebytes.org and one of our support staff members will assist you directly (this is likely your best option given your situation, as you're likely to get the quickest reply here).

If you are a reseller, affiliate, technician, corporate, business, educational, government or non-profit customer then please contact corporate-support@malwarebytes.org and include full contact details along with your Reference # when you do to ensure that you receive prompt assistance.

Thank you :)

Thanks for your suggestion John.

With this particular infection I had, any exe file that I tried to run gave me the dreaded "Open with" screen.

I did eventually get this fixed. I found someone that had posted in the other forum and was able to get exeHelper to run. Once my associations were corrected for exe, com and userinit files, my problem disappeared. I was then able to finally run the MalwareBytes program to sweep my computer again. Avira and McAfee didn't find anything. I ran both of those before I ran the MalwareBytes.

I'm glad to have the issue taken care of but regret the 12+ hours I spent pulling my hair out.

:D

Thanks again for responding.
