MalwareBytes premium and Online Armor firewall

Recommended Posts

I use Online Armor premium firewall and my question is... I seem to have numerous problems with MalwareBytes on both XP and Vista, do MalwareBytes and Online Armor conflict? Right now I have removed MalwareBytes from both computers, I do like the program and would like to reinstall it but I also am very fond of Online Armor... So, do they conflict? Thanks :)

I've seen plenty of people who use both without issue, but that doesn't mean they aren't confilicting on your system for some reason. What problems are you having exactly?

Well, on my Vista there seems, maybe, to be a driver conflict between the two. When I uninstalled MalwareBytes because of problems I got a BSOD, and had to do a System Restore to remedy. The same thing happened when I uninstalled Online Armor to update to newer version. I do not know why this happened, I just know it did. The message was IRQL not less or equal with no number reference. It all started when I removed MalwareBytes... On my XP, I click the Icon in the system tray to open MalwareBytes and instead of the MalwareBytes screen I get the message, MalwareBytes is already running... so I can not access the screen. That is one problem on XP.

My programs on XP in start up tray are... Carbonite, Avira AntiVir Premium, Roboform. WinPatrol. SuperAntiSpyware which I turned off real time in because I had MalwareBytes set at real time, Spamfighter, Advanced System Care Pro, Online Armor Firewall premium... Wheww!!, probably too many. :)

On my Vista...Online Armor Premium Beta, Carbonite, SuperAntiSpyware Premium, WinPatrol,Avira AntiVir Premium, RoboForm,Fingerprint reader which I do not use. And I use Network Magic.

Sorry this developed into "War & Peace" :) I apologize for the length. Thanks.

Hey, no problem, I understand, a lot of software to keep track of. Just take a look at my signature, I've got quite a list going myself. :) Considering all of the softwares you're using, many of which require kernel level drivers, it is entirely possible that there is a conflict in there somewhere. And although it may not be entirely just MBAM and OA causing it, perhaps one of the other softwares you're using in combination with them is preventing them from "playing nice" so to speak. Heck, I've seen all over Kaspersky's site where they explicitly say not to use Spybot, and especially TeaTimer with KAV, but I do and have for years and have yet to have issues with it, of course I've seen plenty of users who have, so you never know because each system is different. Heh, see, I can write a novel too. :) Anyways, hopefully one of the developers can take a look. It kind of sounds like it could be an issue with OA's current beta drivers though. Have you checked their forums to see if there are any similare reports?

Yes, I have consistently check OA's Forum and I have composed a few novels on there myself. :) I do feel as there is a conflict with the kernel level drivers but I do not know which is the culprit. I love Online Armor and have been beta testing since it started and have not had this problem before with any removals in order to download the latest beta and I had all of the other programs all of the time except MalwareBytes... So... I am kind of upset about it because I do like MB and have read really good reports on it and have also written some on yet another forum I belong to. :) So... As of now, I am MalwareByteless... :):) Thanks for answering.

No problem. I got an idea though, to try and narrow it down. Have you tried installing just the free version of MBAM? This would help determine if it's a driver, because the realtime module would be disabled and MBAM loads it's drivers only when it's running, not at boot (unless it's running at boot because of realtime of course).

Hi, Yes I did try that and I downloaded, installed with no key and Voila, there it was with my key and premium. And when I uninstalled originally I used MB'S uninstaller through ccleaner and rebooted and then ran Registry in ccleaner and removed those traces. So... I have no clue why my license key was put in and I had the full version. :) Guess I could try it again. Use the old "If at first you don't succeed..." method. :) Thanks again Exile360, you are great.

Yeah, from what I've heard it still leaves the product activation somewhere in the registry. You might have to go with a search or use something like RegScanner to dig up the leftovers. Just make sure you save your key for if/when you get things working again.

O.K., I will see what I can do tomorrow. Thanks for all of the information and, at least. no one can say I am not trying. :) You are very knowledgeable, and I thank you.

I am running both OA AV+ and MBAM in realtime without problems.

Did you try to uninstall MBAM, put OA in learning mode and reinstall MBAM?

Or the other way first MBAM and then OA?

Gerard

Hi Gerard, I removed MalwareBytes first and then OA on my Vista. Now, when I try to install MB again should I put OA in learning mode? I just clicked install mode before. I really do want to use them both together and would be delighted if I could get them to "play nice.".. and no more BSOD's. I am going to try again tonight to install MB and hope all goes welll... BSOD's tend to concern me , to say the least. :) Thanks

I have XP Home, IE7 SP3 and have Malwarebytes, Online Armor, SUPERAntiSpyware Pro. and Avast Free Version all running realtime. Also SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard. I have not found any conflict with running all these programs together. They are also running behind my DSL Firewall.

When I first purchased MBAM, I disabled SAS realtime, and ran just MBAM for about two weeks, then turned SAS back on in realtime and have not noticed any problems running those two programs together.

Thanks Larry38 and I can only wish for results as good as yours when I install MalwareBytes again...tonight, I keep procrastinating. :) When you install a program do you put OA in learning mode?? In the programs that you listed the only difference is that I use Avira and you have a few more than I do. i.e. ,Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard. So, it should work and I genuinely hope it does. Thanks you for the information.

You can put OA in learning mode if you want to, you just get a lot more popups I think I downloaded mine as recommended, it has been some time ago. I did have OA installed for a long time, before installing MBAM, just had to give it permission to install and was no problem.

I tried Avira several years ago and didn't like it for some reason, been so long ago I don't remember why, it is probably better now. I used AVG Pro. for many years till version 8 came along and dumped it in favor of Avast

Good luck and you are very welcome. OA has a very good support forum, should you need help.
