Email apparently from me

Recommended Posts

Hi people - wonder if you can suggest what I can do please?

This morning I received an email from a customer of mine asking me if I had forwarded her email to others as she has received a 'spam' email which was supposedly sent by me.

I did not do this.

There was no email sent in my sent folder

In my spam folder was about 10 undeliverable emails that had come back to me (although I had not sent them) which was the same as the email as my customer had received.

The email account is with Yahoo and I have sent it on to their abuse team.

Could there be something lurking on my computer? What can we do to ensure it is clean?

I appeciate your help with this - many thanks.

First off, make sure you have the latest version of Malwarebytes installed and updated then run a scan to make sure the system is not infected with something. Also run a scan with your updated anti-virus software. If no infections are found, then more than likely someone has hacked into you yahoo email account.

I would change your Yahoo email account password as soon as you can.

Have changed password and run the scan - this is the log - do you think everything is ok now?

Hello Kristell,

Unfortunately it appears you have been infected.

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

You can follow the directions below and someone will assist you with running scans on your system to see if they can detect anything.

Please print out, read and follow the Directions HERE, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org

Thank you very much.
