Can't rid myself of malware

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had a Dell Inspiron mini brought to me because it is "acting funny". It has Win 7 on it. I installed Malwarebytes and it did it's normal download of updates, but as soon as it started the scan, it shuts off. OK (thinks I), I'll go into safe mode and knock this little bugger out. I get the same thing in safe mode. It will not let me run any scan. Nothing pops up to identify what the malware is...but I suspect it is Antivirus 2010 as it shows up in the add/remove program list and will not let me uninstall it. I have dealt with this one before but I was able to go into Safe Mode and get rid of it (on an XP machine).

What do I need to do to get rid of this? I tried to follow the steps in "OK I'm infected, what do I do now?" I tried to install rootrepeal, but it doesn't work with 64 bit OS.

Help me out here.
