Internet not working after Malware Infection (HijackThis)

Hi guys,

Desperatly need some help here

2 nights ago i was infected with malware.

i have sinced removed all this

since i removed it all i have been upable to access the internet properly

(this is where it gets wierd)

when i open IE it tries to go to my hompage (google) but i get the "This page cannot be displayed" message

this also happends when i try to go to other websites like microsoft or hotmail.

weird thing is that i can log into Windows live messenger with no problems and certain sites that i had saved in my "links" folder also work. eg, netbank, paypal.

i have tried numerous scans and fixes but to no prevail

i have tried scans with CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Avast & Spybot. Malwarebytes anmd Avast have both picked up problems but have deleted or fixed them. i have re-scanned after this and they are no longer picking up any problems.

i have tried fixing winsock through both the command line and the windows fix app

i have also tried fixing the HOST files and using LSP fix but still no fix

last thing i did was repair windows using the installation cd but still nothing.

i am at the point where i think i am going to have to reformat and start again but i would like to avoid this if possible.

Looks like the malware set a proxy that has probably not been fixed and is blocking your network connections.

In Internet Explorer:

• Click Tools then select Internet Options
  
• Click on the connections tab and click the Lan Settings button at bottom
  
• Uncheck Use a Proxy server for your lan...
  
• Make sure to check Automatically detect settings
  

You can also fix the following entry with HijackThis:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555

At least, it appears to have worked lol

i can now get onto websites that i could not access bofore however, i am unable to access the microsoft update website.

i CAN get onto microsoft.com and i can navigate around with no problems but i am unable to get to the update.

any ideas??

You probably still have some infection present. At least it should be a little easier to work on it now.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.

Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.

• When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
     
  2. Attach.txt
     

  [*]Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.
