How do I know if maleware has been completely removed?

I had a pretty nasty peice of malware/scareware called "Antispyware Soft" or "Antivirus Soft" on my computer. It was preventing me from running Malwarebytes (or anything else) and so I did a google search (via a 2nd computer). When I did a google search I found some instructions that talked about removing some registry keys and some other stuff. I tried to follow the direcetions but things were just different enough that I could not do what worked for the other guy. I decided to revert to a restore point which was created a few days before the infection. That got me to the point where I could update and run Malwarebytes. When I ran it it found only a couple things to delete (even on a full scan) but only one was a registry key. I was sure that there were supposed to be like 4 or 5 keys that needed to be deleted (per the info I found on the google search results) to fix this nasty. So, how can I find out if the infection is completely removed?

Thanks for reading,

/John
