No Protection Module??

Recommended Posts

I just got this program and I have to say WOW! I've gone through more anti-spyware/malware programs than most people and this IS BY FAR THE BEST!

Anyways, Im having a problem with getting the "Protection Module" to work. I would like to run Malwarebytes right when I start the computer up, and keep the protection module running because my Internet Security doesn't seem to be doing the trick... (ESET Smart Security 64bit). But when i turn the Protection Module on, it quits after about 5 minutes. It pops up an error box saying "[OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code 2" and then turns off the protection module.

Also, I have it set to run at startup, but it never runs. I've checked msconfig and its set to run.. ive uninstalled it and reinstalled it... and I just recently tried to download mbam-clean.exe, but i get another error message saying its not a valid Win32 application.

Im running Vista 64 bit so IDK whats going on.

If anyone can lend a hand I would more than appreciate it!

Thanks!!!

Rid

nevermind, it looks like I got it...

Turns out, if you register the program, uninstall the program but leave the Key in the registry, and then reinstall it... the active protection doesnt work.

Make sure you delete all the registry entries for this program before you try and install a new version or do a uninstall/reinstall

Glade you figured it out, for future referance, this is how you could do a complete correct re-install.

Please try the following to see if it helps:

Windows XP:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it.
