EXE files gone after MBAM removed Virus

Recommended Posts

So i was surfing the net 2 days ago and all of a sudden i was attacked by a virus called "Vista Smart Security" dont know if any of you heard or have had this because it should be fairly new.. anyway i was attacked by this annoying virus and was really getting on my nerves because it would pop up every so often telling me my computer was raided by virus, trojans, malwares etc and would tell me to purchase the "full package" to help me remove them, and i knew it was all BS because ITSELF was a virus, so i googled this virus and was brought to a web page which had instructions on how to remove it and i was instructed to download MBAM so i did, after downloading and installing it i used quick scan to scan my computer for this virus, it detected it and a bunch of other virus i didnt know i had... i quickly removed it all and restarted my PC, after logging back on the virus was removed and so was ALL my EXE files like windows media player, firefox, my games etc etc, even my windows security doesnt work... now my question is how can i restore these programs because i really do not want to reinstall all of these files. If anyone has had the same problem and came up with a solution please help me out here or if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for responding.

Hello, and welcome to Malwarebytes.org

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please print out, read and follow the directions here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9573

Try to complete all the steps, but you can skip any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here:

If your computer is un-bootable and you cannot run any of the steps, just post a description of the problems you are having there.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someon has replied to your post.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org
