HELP for new member

Recommended Posts

I'm a new member here and I know my way around a computer but can seem to rid my pc of malware or adware. I have downloaded HJT, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot, and Spyware Doctor. My system is still slow and the problem seems to be in registry but I'm afraid to delete anything that might cause operating problems. Symantec is my system security and it doesn't detect any problems. I have my log from MBAM.

Hi blackcrowsfan [great band] and welcome to Malwarebytes. Your HJT log was missing important information and to reduce scroll time I removed it. Please follow the instructions at the top of this forum [moved you here also] and when the HJT log is copied to Notepad, post all of it. Someone will be happy to help you once the logs are pasted here.

Hello Hi blackcrowsfan,

I'll take over for Jean - The issue is that you keep posting what appears to be a modifed or edited HJT Log.

If there is some issue or reason why you can't post the entire log please let me know.

Remove any old version of HJT and download from here: HiJackThis

You can also use ATF to clean up temporary files from your system that may help.

  • Follow these instructions carefully.
  • Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove "junk" files from your computer that may contain malware.
  • You can also download it from Majorgeeks.com
  • When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main.
  • For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox
  • NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored
  • Then click on "Empty Selected".

Do not attach the HJT Log file, simply post the contents here on the board.

I've pasted all the text on my hjt log. I ran this one this morning without hitting the fix button. I want to make sure that I'm not going to do more harm than good. I also ran spybot search & destroy but did hit the fix button on that one. My machine is really slow at moving from application to application or on the net (connection is excellent) is there anything besides buying more memory that I can do to clean it up?

I currently have symantec and it doesn't seem to pick anything up or if it does it doesn't really "fix" it. Is symantec ineffective?

When I run a symantec scan it tells me to first turn of system restore, second disconnect or disable my network connection, last it tells me to boot to safe mode and run the scan, is this necessary? It seems to find more problems but is still inefficient at "fixing" the problem.

By the way I REALLY APPRECIATE all of your help. I was really tired of everything I did not working and every place I went for help treated me like I was George Bush.

Run a scan only in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you've checked the last one.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {393BE664-26E6-49A7-8A7B-C2F3DCCCB96E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmnno.dll (file missing)

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = cfc.local

O17 - HKLM\Software\..\Telephony: DomainName = cfc.local

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = cfc.local

Then exit the HJT program.

Start up your Malwarebytes program and go to the UPDATE Tab and click on Check for Updates

and then after the updates have been applied click on the main Scanner tab and choose Perform full scan and click the SCAN button.

After the scan has completed click to repair it and restart the computer if requested.

Online Anti-Malware / Anti-Virus scan

  • Run an online scan with ESET from
Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner

    • You
      must
use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan.
    • Accept the terms and click "Start".

    • Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications".

    • Click "Start" to begin the scan.

    • When completed restart your computer

After the reboot click on the Windows START button and then click the RUN button and type in this command and copy/paste the contents here (unless you're using a hosts file on purpose that contains hundreds of entries) in that case you can skip pasting it here.

notepad C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS

Then come back and post the logs from ESET and Malwarebytes and the HOSTS file.

I would also uninstall the RegistryBooster 2 from Control Panel Add/Remove (Registry cleaners can often do more damage than good)
