HELP WITH "SECURITY TOOL"

Recommended Posts

Hello Mandrake, and welcome to the forums here at Malwarebytes.org :)

See if you can do any of the following:

Please read and do the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

We don't work on Malware removal in the general forums.

Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem in detail into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

Also, when replying, please use the "ADD REPLY" button or erase what the person you are replying to said, as this makes the forum easier to read.

Thank you :D

I had Security Tool on a customer laptop today - the generic instructions posted say to just install mbam-setup.exe. That was not allowed with this variant. Not only that, but it would not allow that file to be placed onto the Desktop. It was necessary to remove the hard drive, then copy to the hard drive.

1. mbam-setup.exe - did not work - Security Tool reported that mbam-setup was, itself, infected with a worm.

2. renamed.exe - did not work - Security Tool reported that renamed.exe was, itself, infected with a worm.

3. mbam-setup.com - did not work

4. renamed.com - did not work

Finally I just restarted the machine in safe mode, ran the "renamed.exe" file and it loaded fine, detected 5 items, removed them and all was good. Restarted, connected to the internet, downloaded the updates and re-scanned. Still was good.

Thanks again to a superior product - Malwarebytes

@ Nick Oliver Glad it worked for you....

Malwarebytes does not recommend running it safe mode unless you were asked to do it by an expert, it was designed to run in normal mode so that it can perform its best work. Running it in safe mode can sometimes cause more issues (for example not being able to logon afterwards). In this case it worked for you and thats good.
