Windows 7 BlueScreen

Recommended Posts

I have a Windows 7 eMachine that I got about 2 months ago. On random occasions I get a Blue Screen of Death. I ran Malwarebytes and the scans came back clean - as did my McAfee antivirus scan. The past couple days I noticed that the BSoD happens almost immediately when try to watch a video on YouTube. I don't know if it is a problem with a video driver or what. Any help would be appreciated!!

well right off the bat, I see you are using McAfee with MBAM. Have you entered the exceptions for MBAM onto your antivirus program. Like stated here:

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 32 bit versions Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Please post back and let us know how it went.

Second, make sure you have the latest video driver installed for you video card if you suspect it to be the video card. Have you ran a memory tester on your computer as well. Faulty memory could cause that.

If you were to get us a little more info on the exact error on the BSOD, we may be able to provide better help.

I thought that McAfee might have been what was causing it so one of the first things that I had tried was uninstalling it. The BSOD still happened.

I just updated my NVIDIA video driver and tried viewing a YouTube video and the BSOD didn't happen! It looks like that might have fixed my problem.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!
