Santa "almost" made it

Recommended Posts

According to the BBC Breakfast News, the Krist family live near London Zoo. Each New Year's Eve, they predict the general luck and overall mood of the new year by visiting the zoo and carefully watching its oldest animal, a gnu.

If the gnu's ears go forward when being fed, that means a successful, upbeat year is almost guaranteed. But if his ears are laid back flat against his head, that show an unlucky/unhappy year is due.

Last year, their youngest daughter Mary was chosen to "survey" the animal and to come up with the prediction. It was her first time solo; in her excitement, she forgot to take the key to the cage and so was late in coming in to check on the gnu. As a result, she saw the wrong ear position and predicted a bad year, when in fact it was quite good. To explain the error, the local newspaper ran the following headline the next day
