Real-Time Protection causing freezing

Recommended Posts

More specifically, ransomware protection is causing my freezing issue and disabling that stops it. When I play the game Fortnite (Save the World game mode) I consistently get freezes every 3 minutes that last 3-4 seconds. This freezing issue also occurs outside of just Fortnite or any other video game. It also occurs when chrome is open, watching videos or even when my PC is idle, but not as frequently. I disable ransomware protection and the freezing issue stops. I can reproduce this 100% of the time. When ransomware protection is running the most obvious way to test it is to open Fortnite and let the game run, my PC will freeze every 3 minutes for 3-4 seconds.

@ParanoiaBoy I tried playing Rise of the Tomb Raider when I was trying to find the cause of this issue to basically stress test my GPU and in the 30 minutes that I played I only had the freeze happen once, when it would've happened 10 times in Fortnite Save the World. I do freeze in Fortnite Battle Royale mode too but way less frequently. I'm not sure why it affects games differently, some games like Ironsight don't have the freezing issue at all, but I do know that Malwarebytes ransomware protection is the cause of it.

IMO: I would guess it has to do with how many temp files are created from gameplay. More files, more freezes. I'll be glad when Anti-Ransomware gets improved upon

  • 5 months later...

I am currently experiencing the same issue. I recently built a Ryzen PC and thought the issue may have resulted somewhere within my new system build. I then troubleshooted a lot of possibilities for the freezing issue until I read this forum. I decided to disable Ransomware and test League of Legends and the problem was gone. Thought I would share that either the Ransomware feature or something pertaining to Malwarebytes is causing random freezing during game play.
