I've solved this, but I thought I'd post it here in case others are experiencing the same symptoms.

For the past few weeks I've noticed performance issues on my Windows 7 Professional desktop PC.

1. Browsers are slow to open web pages, and slow to open Home Page (which is a local file, not an external URL).

2. Videos played from another network share on my LAN experience stuttering and "mpeging" at start.

3. Towards the end, File Explorer windows will take minutes to refresh.

4. MBAMService running at between 50% and 80% CPU continually

5. Malwarebytes itself slow to open up program interface

 

I did the usual method of disabling add-ons in browsers, even though all 3 browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome) exhibited the same symptoms.  Finally I ran MB-Clean.  Malwarebytes is now reinstalled and running, and exhibiting none of the above symptoms.  What I don't know is exactly what was happening, and why.

If you haven’t already done so, please run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and then attach the logs in your next reply:

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  • Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link

  • Click the Gather Logs button

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to gather troubleshooting information from your computer
  • Upon completion, click OK
  • A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  • Please attach the file in your next reply. Click "Reveal Hidden Contents" below for details on how to attach a file:
