Reimage Repair Tool Crash?

Recommended Posts

Hello. Yesterday I was looking at stuff that might help me resolve a runtime error I constantly get and while doing so some websites kept mentioning this Reimage Repair Tool. Eventually I clicked on the link to the site and malwarebytes blocked me from seeing it but then suddenly my screen went black, computer made a momentary screeching noise, and then it was stuck on the black screen. I had to press the power button to get it to boot up again, and any reboots after that were ridiculously slow. I've run malwarebytes multiple times on a normal boot and in safe mode with no results pertaining to reimage repair tool. I do not know if I have it, if I should be worried about my system being compromised, or why that type of crash happened as I haven't had it before. This laptop is relatively new, I got it late last December.

Hello @seattleite and :welcome:

It was probably just a temporary issue, but we'll scan for potential malware threats

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready. I'm heading out, but will check your logs sometime tomorrow.

STEP 01

  • If you're already running Malwarebytes 3 then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes 3 installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the Export Summary button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find, and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know on your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan.
  • When finished, please click Clean.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Copy its content into your next reply.

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

@AdvancedSetup Do I have to worry or be afraid about that crash? Why would it crash and freak out like that if Malwarebytes supposedly blocked it? I have never seen this happen before. Should I send my laptop in to HP? I also made this youtube video of sounds my laptop makes and I am not sure if I should be worried about them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDo2j5mi9Tk  --- Just really paranoid about needing repairs now even though this laptop isn't even old and I mostly use it for facebook and a game. Ever since I got this laptop it has been slow, can't even watch HBO Go movies and tv shows without it buffering constantly. My game also tends to have a runtime library error that I can't sort out.

Below I have the Malwarebytes Export Summary, AdwCleaner text file, and the Farbar text files. The only thing I've used on this computer before was Malwarebytes, not the other programs.

I forgot to note with my laptop being very slow even chrome is slow. Facebook is crazy slow, always has been even when this was brand new. Not sure if that's normal or just issues with this laptop. I sent it in within the first month of having it because of the slowness and they replace the mother board but it didn't change how slow it was.

Sorry for the delay. The logs look pretty good overall.

Let's go ahead and reset your browsers and see if that helps. The computer did crash an application, but I would not worry about it unless it continues to happen. Sometimes programs crash unexpectedly but that does not mean there is an ongoing issue.

Please visit each of the following sites and let's reset all of your browsers back to defaults to prevent unexpected issues.
If you are not using one of the browsers but it is installed then you may want to consider uninstalling it as older versions of some software can pose an increase in the potential for an infection to get in.

Internet Explorer
How to reset Internet Explorer settings

Microsoft Edge
How to Reset Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Firefox
Click on Help / Troubleshooting Information then click on the Refresh Firefox button.

Chrome
Reset Chrome back to defaults to completely clear out issues with Chrome.

  • First, go to >> Google Sync << and sign into your account. Make sure you know your password as this will clear it from the browser.
  • Scroll down until you see the  reset_chrome_sync.png "reset sync" button to clear your data from the server and remove your passphrase.
  • Now, close all Chrome windows. Chrome cannot be running for the next step. If needed, print this information or use another browser to read the information.
  • Press the Windows key + R at the same time, to bring up the run dialog box.
    • run_command.png
  • Type in (or copy/paste) the following and press Enter:     %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
  1. Press Ctrl + A to select all the files and folders.
  2. Hold down Ctrl + A and click once on the files "Bookmarks" and "Bookmarks.bak". This will unselect them.
  3. With all the files selected (except for your Bookmarks), press the Delete key and click Yes to delete the files and folders.
  4. Example of all files and folders selected, except Bookmarks

Restart your computer now and make sure there are no longer any redirects or other browser issues.

@AdvancedSetup  Okay I reset everything as you instructed, is there anything else I need to do?

Also, do you know how to fix runtime errors? This is what got me into this reimage repair tool mess to begin with, now I'm afraid to look for any other solutions after this. It happens on this one program but anyone else who uses it doesn't seem to have the same issue. I've had the issue since I got this laptop in December. I've attached the two errors that come up if you have any ideas.

You have 2 full antivirus suite installations running on the computer. This will cause conflicts and issues. Please choose one and fully uninstall the other one.

Avast Free Antivirus
Norton Security Suite

For your Mudpak Client, you'll probably need to reinstall that, but you're also having video card driver issues. Please look at reinstalling the latest release video drivers from AMD for your system.

Then run the following after removal of one of the antivirus products and a restart.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

fixlist.txt

Thanks

Ron
