Error 1 privileges issue

Recommended Posts

I have a friend running OS X 10.7.5 and he just ran the older version of malwarebytes" for Mac and got this message:

Error 1 <date> <Name iMac> mbam[8413] <notice> AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges mv rename long directory of user to another , Operation not permitted.

What should he do?

Thaks,

There's an issue with that older version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac that causes it to fail to remove locked files. That has been fixed in more recent versions of the software, but unfortunately, those versions don't run on Mac OS X 10.7.

As a workaround, he could look at the log file and find the detected files by path, then delete them by hand. (He can paste a path from the log file into the window that appears when he chooses Go to Folder from the Go menu in the Finder.)

Mac OS X 10.7 is quite old at this point, and hasn't been receiving security updates. Plus, it was the worst of all recent versions of the OS... anything older or newer has better performance. I'd strongly recommend upgrading that system to something newer, if the hardware can handle that.
