Suspicous File detected by Avira

Recommended Posts

Hi;

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP SP3 and I encountered these alerts/detection by Avira Premium scan. There was no detection by Malwarebytes and I thought I should let you guys know.

1) C:\Program Files\Free Hide Folder\fhide.exe

Contains recognition pattern of the APPL/HideFolder application

2) C:\WINDOWS\system32\wininet.DLL

Contains HEUR/Modified SystemFile suspicious code

3) C:\WINDOWS\explorere.exe

Contains HEUR/Modified SystemFile suspicious code

Are these virus'? :unsure: I use Free Hide Folder mainly for privacy and to hide my folders from prying eyes. What can I do?

I have performed a HijackThis scan but I dont understand the scan. I am attachning the HijackThis scan for your perusal. Please assist me on this.

Hi;

Thanks, I already did a scan via my updated MBAM but still there is no detection. I will have this checked out by VirusTotal and Kaspersky online scanner. I am still awaiting the verdict of Avira on the files I have submitted to them but it is taking quite long. I will keep you posted on this.

Thank you.

Were you able to run a Kaspersky scan? What did they say?

Hi,

I went online and sent the quarantine file to VirusTotal for analysis and the 2 files that I sent did not contain any virus or malware whatsoever. I also tried Jottis.org and Filterbit.com for both of the files and the same results was given.

Is it safe to say that these are "false positives"? :unsure:

I'm still waiting the email from Avira Virus Lab since I sent the files for analysis. I haven't tried Kaspersky's online virus scanner since I shifted to a dial-up connection(some cost cutting measures I really have to do due to the economy) :) and it may take quite a while until it finishes. I will try it when I get to borrow a wireless connection today.

The pc is a bit sluggish when I'm in the internet and I encountered a blue screen 2x when I attempted to use KM Player and VLC Media Player at the same time. (Was that a good idea? I mean I never tried itbefore, it just hit me to do it..) When I attempted it I had Autocad 2008 work on, with 2 Minitab15 projects open, 2 SAS JMP5 files open, 1 Quality Companion 2 project open, 2 Powerpoint files, 2 Excel Files and 2 Word files open. After I restarted and I went to open Autocad files I got the blue screen again.

There was a problem with BartPE because I can't create a boot disk for my fresh install becuse of the errors detected. This was a first time to me since when I used Macrium Reflect and BartPE together with Windows XP SP2. Now that I have switched to SP3 I cant create a boot disk.

Can this be attributed to the so-called HEUR Suspicious files or I just made a mistake of attempting to use both media players at the same time?

I am posting the log of MBAM and HijackThis here again for your perusal.

I'm not really sure about the KM Player (my guess is you don't even really need it do you?) Won't VLC play everything you already have?

Well current MBAM logs do not show anything, unless you have them in quarantine. So based on VT I'd say if they show they'd be a FP.
