suspicious windows update

Hi all

everything OK until the weekend when after what appeared to be a less than satisfactory Windows update I can not use System Restore to go back to last week (main problem signature  6.1.7600.16385). I started the process because I was not hearing sound despite all drivers etc being in place and working properly. I also can not get the wireless card to communicate with the router now (although I still have access with the wired desktop). I ran a CHKDSK /r overnight but have not had the chance yet to check the outcome of this (in fact the machine rebooted so would also appreciate here knowing how to look up the outcome of the CHKDSK). I am naturally wondering if it is either a system corrupt or a virus (my suspicions were aroused here when a malwarebytes AV scan kept stopping after a few seconds in safe mode). Obviously there is a recommended list of workarounds for this but I would appreciate what the current line of thinking on this was? speccy profile below followed by minitoolbox output

Is this the same computer as the one being worked on at bleepingcomputer here: dodgy Windows 7 update?

 

If so, it can be confusing, inefficient and counter-productive to work on the same problem simultaneously in different venues.

 

If you would like to be assisted here, instead of at bleeping, we ask that you please inform your helper at bleeping.

That way, your helper there can close your thread and turn his attention to other users who need assistance.

It's not really a question of "appropriate", it's the fact that it is inefficient for everyone (including the forum volunteer helpers) to work on the same problem simultaneously in multiple different places.

And it could potentially be damaging to make changes for your system, if you were to follow the advice given by different helpers in different places, unknown to one another.

(It looks as if you also have a 3rd thread at another different forum here?)

 

We are more than happy to help you here, if you wish. :)

But as you are already being actively helped at bleeping, it might be advisable to stick with that thread there. :)
