Can't Open Malwarebytes, Chameleon fails to work properly!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

A couple of days ago on 8-4-2014 my malwarebytes (full version, windows 8.1 64-bit), program wouldn't open. I'm also running Vipre security for anti-virus purposes. I can open Vipre just fine. I double click on malware icon and nothing happens. I have already tried going through computer>C:Drive>ProgramFiles(x86)>malwarebytes anti-malware>chameleon>windows>chameleon and tried clicking several of the links. Each time I clicked on a link, a black box appeared stating: MBAM-Chameleon ver. 3.0.4 press any key continue...so I do. Then a new dialog box appears which states malwarebytes has stopped working. I can either checkk online for a solution and close the program, or close the program. When I click on either option the result is the same: nothing happens, the box goes away and the scan continues. The scan reads: Trying to start malwarebytes please wait...Done! (then it says...) Updating MBAM...Response from update: Failed to start the update. Killing known malicious processes please wait...MBAM-killer Timeout set to 1800 seconds. Mbam-killer encountered an exception initializing - Integrity verification failed - 4e35 (it repeats this message 4 more times) A Reboot is recommended to remove temporary directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebyes Anti-malware\Chameleon\Windows\zmixdjstmp

Malwarebytes has terminated - unable to start the scan...Removing protection drive...Done!

How should I proceed and how could have malware slipped past your software?? Thank you.

Hello Firefox,

Sorry I was away for a couple of days. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my thread. I uninstalled the program and re-installed the latest version, as you suggested. This corrected the problem! When I ran the scan it told me there were no malicious items detected. In your opinion, why do you think this problem occurred for me in the first place? Thank you for your help.

Its good to hear a clean re-install fixed your issue.... Hard to say why it happened. Some folks if they upgraded from version 1.x to version 2.x somehow it did not go so well... It could have been some file corruption in the MBAM database due to power outage/flicker. Hard to tell without looking through some logs...
