Cannot disable scheduler service permanently

Recommended Posts

I have disabled MBAMScheduler service and after a reboot the service is not loaded but after a couple of reboots the scheduler is automatically restarted again. Not sure if this is caused by updating signatures but i've repeated this a few times and obviously i cannot permanently disable it.

Hi, @XpertAdvisor:

Hello wizmut,

To modify scheduler operations, follow this instructions: modify/add/delete scheduler processes

Unfortunately that is NOT the answer to the OP's question.

Scheduling scans and update checks is NOT the same as disabling a Windows service. :(

This is a question best answered by the staff and product team.

@ wizmut:

Please wait for AdvancedSetup or another qualified staff member to answer your question.

Thanks for your patience,

Hi daledoc1,

But, if you delete the scheduler operations, the service will not work because there's no way to terminate it, unless you uninstall Malwarebytes and i supose the user doesn't want to do this.

@ wizmut:

While we await an expert answer, I suppose the question they might want to know is: why do you want to permanently disable the mbamscheduler service in Windows?

The ability to schedule automated tasks (update checks and scans) is one of the most useful features of MBAM 2.x PREMIUM.

Since database updates are shipped 10-12 times a day, the ability to silently automate that task allows one to stay abreast of zero-hour and zero-day threats.

Relying on manual updating seems cumbersome and could compromise one's security.

In any event, I'm sure AdvancedSetup will be able to explain whether or not it's possible to do what you would like without breaking the program.

Thanks very much for your patience,

I have no scheduler tasks, it's about the MBAMScheduler service which is automatically loaded during booting. I wish to have this window service disabled permanently. The thing is it gets reactivated after a couple of times restarting the computer. I think updating signatures could have triggered this behavior.

Personally i like manual updating signatures of AV and antimalware products, this goes for Windows updates too. Recently i experienced some strange behavior of MBAM, it started automatically checking my HD for malware even though i don't have any tasks in the scheduler. So i decided to disable it and hope that will prevent something like that happening again.

Well, it's certainly up to you. :)

I take my software updates manually, too (except for AV and MBAM database updates).

But this isn't monthly Patch Tuesday updates.

It's new databases 10-12 or more times a day to keep up with zero-hour threats.

We will need to wait for expert assistance to determine whether that service CAN be safely disabled without breaking the program.

In any event, the behavior you describe -- scanning your HD without a scheduled task -- does not sound normal.

If you would like to provide AdvancedSetup with some basic system and program info, he might be able to advise how to solve your issue without defeating the purpose of having real-time protection.

To do so, please read the following and post back the requested logs - Diagnostic Logs

He will then review the logs and answer your original question.

Thanks! :)

P.S. If you could please use the vEsOWqp.png button, instead of the JlJ2Op6.png button, it would be easier for everyone to follow the thread.

Hello wizmut,

I'm happy that you know how to disable services, but remember that if you apply the changes as i show you on the image, this service should be now disabled. Please consider that it's not the same using the "disable" option than access to, the properties of that service and disable from inside.

Otherwise, please tell me and i will sent a PM to an admin.
