Malwarebytes: Stuck at Pre-Scan Operations

The Event Logs show that the computer is experiencing quite a few services and applications that are not running or crashing.

First please restart the computer then do the following.

Disable the RootKit scanner in MBAM and then temporarily disable Kaspersky Internet Security and try doing a new Threat Scan and let us know if it still continues to hang or not.

Hello, MBAM,

I just downloaded the software today because I am trying to finish downloading MS Office to my computer, but have been getting a lot of unwanted pop-ups lately. I started the Threat Scan and have been stuck at Pre-Scan Operations for hours now. I've been looking at the other advice given, but nothing seems to be working.

Any ideas why this might be the case?

Thank you.

Hello and :welcome: , @kmkaufman:

This is an old thread based on a much older version of MBAM.

Having said that, there are several reasons for a scan appearing to hang at various points.
As you mention that you have been getting a lot of unwanted popups lately, it sounds as if you could be infected.
That is certainly one possible reason for the scan trouble.

Under the circumstances, the fastest way to resolve the issue might be to get some free, expert help checking and cleaning the system.
Such work is conducted in a special forum area reserved for that purpose, or at the help desk.

So, for expert assistance, I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue, including scanning and cleanup of malware.

The helper can also assist you with getting MBAM up and running.

Thanks,
