Desktop shortcuts gone after malwarebytes scan

Recommended Posts

I recently downloaded the free version of malware bytes and after running a scan for the first time, many of the desktop shortcuts were gone. I've also run into some problems downloading software, getting a lot of "application not found" messages. I followed the instructions for downloading the dds reports and have attached them here. I'm about ready to take my computer in and let the "experts" clean it up. I was told by our IT guy at work to also install CCCleaner when I did malwarebytes but I haven't yet. Will wait for your response. I have checked "follow this topic" but do not see "immediate email notification". I will assume you have my email through the username I gave.

Welcome to the forum......Can you post the log from Malwarebytes.

Then........

Please download and run RogueKiller 32 Bit to your desktop.

RogueKiller 64 Bit <---use this one for 64 bit systems

Which system am I using?

Quit all running programs.

For Windows XP, double-click to start.
For Vista or Windows 7-8, do a right-click on the program, select Run as Administrator to start, & when prompted Allow to run.

Click Scan to scan the system.
When the scan completes > Close out the program > Don't Fix anything!

Don't run any other options, they're not all bad!!!!!!!

Post back the report which should be located on your desktop.
(please don't put logs in code or quotes and use the default font)

There's not much in the logs.
Malwarebytes just cleaned up one registry entry.

You have a good restore point to use, that should restore any shortcuts that are gone:

RP323: 12/22/2013 3:01:12 AM - Windows Update

If you would rather not do that.....we can run some scans.

Let me know...MrC
