Malwarebytes Icon

Recommended Posts

Up until recently I have been using the free version of Malwarebytes which as you know is an 'on demand' facility.

Now I am running the trial version of Malwarebytes Pro and have a couple of questions. I am sorry if they have already been asked but I could not find anything after searching the forum.

Am I right in thinking that the trial/Pro version runs all the time in the background, and if so, does it run automatically. Should there not be an icon in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen to show that it is running. Or do I require to physically start the programme by double clicking the desktop shortcut.

At the moment the only time I see an icon on the taskbar is when I double click the Malwarebytes desktop shortcut, and indeed it is only when I do that that the programme appears under the Applications tab in the Task Manager.

Any help would be appreciated as I just want to make sure that the protection is on at all times.

My OS is windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Thank you.

Yes, the tray icon should be there.

Please do the following and let us know if this corrects the issue for you or not.

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
You can also look up your ID and Key from the Registry and copy and paste it to a Notepad document before running the mbam-clean utility.

    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

I followed your instructions and I now have the Icon in the Notification area and everything seems fine. Thank you so much.

For future reference can I ask, when it says to temporarily disable the Anti-Virus when installing Malwarebytes should I come off-line while doing that or does it not matter for such a short time?
