Cannot open Malwarebytes - vbAccelerator and run-time errors

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm running Windows 2000 Professional and this old laptop computer sat unused until I used it to hook up my new DSL yesterday, and didn't allow for all of the updates before uninstalling programs and downloading Firefox. When I finally got everything updated and installed malwarebytes, I couldn't get malwarebytes open. In Chameleon mode, it says it's Malwarebytes is running, but I only get a vbAccelerator SGrid II Control" error followed by a Run-time error '440' no matter what I do. My other programs seems to be working OK, but obviuosly there's still a problem(s).

I can't use Combofix on my operating system, nor could I even do a repair installation if need be, but I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I did run a scan on my antivirus, but I have this old Etrust program that a PC Tech installed years ago, so I'm not sure if it's any good. I'm going to try to run Avast, but I have a feeling that whatever is on my PC is blocking any new installations of anti-virus/malware removal programs. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello and :welcome:

That there is one old operating system (Windows 2000). For the error you are getting have a look in our FAQ HERE at issue #15 and see if that helps with getting Malwarebytes working for you.

Also make sure your antivirus software is updated before doing any scans, as you mentioned it has not been on/updated in quite some time.

Thank you Mr. Forum Deity, I was able to install and run Avast and it did find Malware. I worked on my issue yesterday for hours before realizing that I had forgotten to check for and run automatic updates(the little planet icon is unrecognizable to me), and I'm embarrassed to say how many updates there were. I don't use this old Windows 2000 laptop, but my desktop is still hooked up to my cable internet service. We'll see if Malwarebytes works after Avast cleans up a bit. I do have the link you provided if not, thanks!

OK, I don't know if anyone is listening, but I followed the instructions for my issues, and no dice! I was able to download and run Spybot, and it found malware. Since removing it, I still am getting the same errors as before (even with Spybot but it still runs). I just can't get Malwarebytes to open at all. Help!!???

If you found some malware, it could very well be some left over malware that is preventing Malwarebytes from working. Please follow the steps below....

Hello and welcome to Malwarebytes

If you think you are infected, here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

Don't use any temporary file cleaners unless requested - this can cause data loss and make recovery difficult

You have 3 Options that you can choose from as listed below:

  • Option 1 —— Free Expert advice in the Malware Removal Forum
  • Option 2 —— Paying customer -- Contact Support via email
  • Option 3 —— Premium, Fee-Based Support

OPTION 1

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the

Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here (http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9573), skipping any steps you are unable to complete.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification,
so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

NOTE: Please do not post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies.

If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

  • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
    Or
  • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

OPTION 2

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here (http://helpdesk.malwarebytes.org/home)

OPTION 3

If you would like to use our Malwarebytes Premium Services, Comprehensive solutions to all your computer support needs—from installation and set-up to troubleshooting and tune-ups go to our Malwarebytes Premium Services support site here (http://www.malwarebytes.org/premium-support.php)

Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as possible.
