  1. (1) May I ask, is Malwarebytes owned by the same owner as ten years ago? Or, it has brought aboard new investors? Or, new management?

    (2) Once the update is complete, I shouldn't have to be plugged in to the internet to complete the scan. Or, it didn't used to be.

    (3) It used to be, I had to actually be connected to the internet for the, "Check for Updates" to do its thing. Now the graphic shows completed, with no connection. View attached.

    (4) If need be I will make a movie of what is taking place on screen showing the connection is turned off during, "Check for Updates."

  2. Premium Malwarebytes 3.5.1

When I disconnect from the internet, and run Malwarebytes, I am used to the Update not working, or staying orange and not turning green, or receiving a popup warning. Formerly, I either ran Malwarebytes without the update, or was forced to reconnect temporarily so the Update Step of the Scan would complete, and that circle would be green. Now, even if I am disconnected, the Update graphic runs and shows green.

Just now when I rebooted and ran a Scan unplugged, there were two popups stating, Unable to contact license server.  Check your network connection, or contact your system administrator for help.

This popup appeared twice, then Malwarebytes loaded.

On a side note, I shut down Firefox and run CCleaner, and it shows double my usual temp files and cookies, 1 G instead of 500 MB.

On the attached, you see on the bottom right the network connection is off, and the pup up appears when I clicked the Malwarebytes icon. But after closing it twice, Malwarebytes loaded as normal.

  3. Thank you. I entered the id and key info, and it's fine!

May I ask, is it okay to download and install, HTTPS Everywhere? What has Malwarebytes heard about it? It is a "browser add-on . . . which forces any site that supports https:// connections to encrypt ommunications with the Web site — regardless of whether this is the default for that site," according to Brian Krebs. What do you say?

  4. False alarm. I figured it out. The update that appeared, "forced," on my Windows 7 Professional operating system is the patch!

Microsoft must have pushed the update, where I am used to receiving ample warning via the HP Envy 7640 series software. So, it concerned me to have an update forced on me, and changed the settings of my new tab to about:NewsFeed.

@ AdvancedSetup, if you say my laptop looks clean, I'll move on from here.

    Thank you.

  5. Wowl I thought, it wasn't set right. It was set to NewsFeed. But now I tried to load one of my bookmarked pages into the blank, and see what appeared!

Edit: I mean, I perceived the about:NewsFeed default Microsoft tab as an infection! It had somehow reset, and I didn't know how to set it. Or something. It might have been my big, dumb mistake.

Since I upgraded to Premium at this time, and ran all the AdwCleaners and Junkware Removal tools, I am glad of my mistake. The site I like to access is: aqmd.gov I access the air quality map every day.

  6. Hi,

Here is the FRST. Thanx for helping. Now, I'll try the IE tab. Opening fresh didn't cause redirect; opening a new session didn't cause redirect, only a new tab. Here goes: Oops! Nope! Still news articles in new tab. It was confusing. Since I had, "reset," internet explorer settings, it seems a default Microsoft homepage appeared first, with a popup screen offering to add SmartScreenFilter, or something like that, but I clicked, Remind Me later.

Then I tried to set the tab in internet options to blank, instead of the default microsoft page: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=255141

Maybe I was wrong all along. There is a current tab, which reads: about:NewsFeed . Is that programmed default into IE? When I clicked the Tab link under Internet Options in IE 11, I could set the tab with the pull-down menu to "Change how webpages are displayed in tabs," to blank page, now, a new tab creates a blank. I put the html code for the NewsFeed page in my first post. Does it look like an infection?

  8. Before I powered off my laptop 05-10-2-17 near midnight California time, I updated and ran Malwarebytes free version, as is my custom. It showed, "0." But it installed something when I powered off, and something scrolled across the screen when I turned it back on. Something like:

    Applying Updates . . . Registration/Machi

So I ran Malwarebytes free version again. "0" objects were detected. But opening a new tab in IE - which usually is blank according to my default setting: about:blank - displays articles and a search bar, or no articles and a search bar if connected, or error message if not connected. I copied and pasted the html code of the browser window, and ran a Farber and attached the FRST.txt and Addition.txt.

  9. Hi, haven't had another BSOD - that's a good thing, right?

May I get this question answered, about the Device Manager/Network Adapters.

There is where the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, which you had me uninstall, and the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter, which also uninstalled, after I checked the "Delete the driver software for this device," checkbox in the confirm popup.

Should the new wireless drivers show up there?

Or, do I have to manually point them in the Location to Save Files screen in the setup?

I left it default. Maybe, I have to manually put the location, so they appear in the Device Manager / Network Adapters folder!

Edited to add: The question is: do the drivers have to be in a certain location to work? Or, is the Device Manager / Network Adapters folder a spot where the drivers are mirrored, for the sake of accessing them?

  10. Now I will post screen shots of the problem reports, and one txt file.

    problemReports02062017.jpg.c6972b3dc5c30cac009d861ae94cd9dc.jpg

When I click on Problem Compatibility report, at the top, this appears.

    ProgramCompatibilityproblem02062017.jpg.11d1c976e41df8a90679d067be8dd2eb.jpg

When I click on Diagnostics Trouble Shooting Wizard for 02-06-2017, this appears:

    DiagnosticsTroubleShootingWizard02062017.jpg.c60d8f99e6f06943452220d0b08257da.jpg

When I click on Driver software Installation for 02-06-2017, this appears:

    DriverSoftwareInstallation02062017.jpg.a5c1d7f015321357edf3eba55b04e76e.jpg

Do you need the DMICE06.tmp.log.xml file?

That appears to be it. There is nothing else in the Problem reports related to installation of the wi-fi software.

    :)

  11. I downloaded from the link you posted. It is an executable file. First,

I uninstalled the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 device. I checked, "Delete the driver software for this device," the way you instructed:uninstallInstructions02032017.jpg.6a2a91193cc6a366a35ef6eb6270b860.jpg

    uninstallInstructions02032017b.jpg.f99a7b9daaef3bbb31c293172dfac7cd.jpg

It took out the Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter, as well. Here is how it looks now:

    NetworkAdapters02062017.jpg.9c9c7653a6e01870b5c20161a25d5db0.jpg

Both laptops are fired up, and a flashdrive to go back and forth. Here are some of the screenshots I took, which may indicate what happened:

    LocationtoSave02062017.jpg.c7066a26ec7852385900753c9ae517e8.jpgI

Is the default address okay? Maybe it has to go where the Network adapters are (?)

    NotInstall02052017.jpg.03cc769095587a9d62365cee1c8441fd.jpg

That was last night. I reinstalled, and reinstalled, then placed the executable file on my desktop, instead of in a folder, and reinstalled, again, by now, about 1/2 a dozen times! That is the message I get at the end.

When I turned on my computer from Hibernate, this message appeared from the status tray:

    ClickforDetails02062017.jpg.0580aa5df74d5705245cc4ca26fed9a8.jpg

but the message disappeared while I took a screen shot.

Then I reinstalled the software again, and got this message at the end:

    RefertoLogFile02062017.jpg.b5f1a45e77076923c3fa6a8038a8f1a8.jpg

  12. Hi, I followed your instructions to delete the driver software for the device, by clicking the checkbox in the popup. I'm on my other laptop, because I don't have wireless on the one I was fixing, so I can communicate with you on the forum.

See on the screenshot, above? Under Network Adapters, there is only one entry, the one at the top. The Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter at the bottom, is gone. I put my laptop on Hibernate. I seldom shut it down. When I ran the executable file of the wireless program, a popup window appeared, offering to fix the connection, if it didn't install properly. I tried that a few times. There was a screen which asked where to put the wireless software, and there was a default option, so I left the default.
