Hello gureko,
You may try to re-install MBAM, and add exclusions to some MBAM files (the words in purple) to your antivirus(avast) to see if it can solve the freezing problem ...
For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
- Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
- Click on Programs and Features
- Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Restart your computer very important
- Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
- It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
- After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here. Remember to enable your Anti-Virus after installation.
Note:
- You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
- Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. - Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides, especially Section H, posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
If it cannot solve, since there are some malware/virus onboard, and as malware removal expert helpers don't work on Malware removal or diagnostics in this forum, please read carefully and follow the directions below so that a qualified helper will help you to clean those nasty malware for free at the malware removal forum -
- If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet, then you should not post a new topic here and stay working with the helper from that site until the issue is resolved.
- Please print out, read, and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete.
- Then post a NEW topic here, remember to describe your problem along with the necessary logs (MBAM ,DDS, GMER) in that topic. When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested.
- One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
- After posting your new topic, make sure under options (top right of your topic screen), you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options (prefer Immediate Email Notification) so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
- Please be patient when waiting for an expert help as the expert helpers can get a bit busy.
- Please try not to post back (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours. Expert helpers will find the topics which has a zero post count first. If you bump your topic, expert helpers may think the topic is replied and jump to other posts.
If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply the topic for asking help again or send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance. - Please do not alter the system (eg install or uninstall any software, conduct some fixes, use any removal/scanning tool) after posting unless it is told by the expert helper. Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.
Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or via here for a prioritized support. Please remember to quote your cleverbridge Reference Number from the confirmation e-mail when requesting assistance.
If you're a Corporate or Technician Licensed customer seeking assistance please send an email to corporate-support@malwarebytes.org. Please quote your order reference number when you send the request.
NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run any tools in safe mode, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can.
Thank You

Hello cramit02,
Try some of these steps, though not sure if they will be the same:
CA 2010
- Open 'My Internet' section.
- If so open that up and click 'View Settings'.
- Look for 'Identity Protection'
- Scroll down to 'Trusted and Untrusted Sites'
- Paste in the following:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com - Tick 'Trusted Site-always allow'
- Click 'Add'
- Click 'Apply' and reboot
In CA ISS 2007 and 2008:
- Open the CA Personal Firewall GUI;
- Click the 'Privacy' icon;
- On the tab: "Internet Browser Protection", click the "Manage Sites" button;
- In the 'manage sites' dialog box, click "Add";
- In the 'URL' field, paste this URL:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com - In each tab of that dialog box, make sure that no boxes are checked;
- Click OK;
- On the 'manage sites' dialog box, click 'Close";
- Close CA Personal Firewall GUI.
2007 Identity Protection:
- Open GUI
- Click 'Privacy' button
- On the left side, click 'Manage Sites' button
- At the top right side, add the following url:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com - Click 'Ok' close software
See if that helps.
Please post back if you have further questions.
Thank You B)

Hello w33d3r,
I will leave a reply from a MBAM staff in another post to answer your question -
[...] Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware doesn't currently scan archives (zip, rar, ace etc) because it only looks for active infections. I do believe the developers have mentioned that they do plan to implement scanning within archives at some point in the future though, although I do not know when.Please post back if you have further questions.
Thank You B)

If yes, is there any default page set at the startup?
If yes too, what is the website/page then? (please put the address of the site in a code tag please )
And one more thing, do you have ask toolbar installed on your machine (esp. an add-on in Firefox)?
Thanks
Edit - adding question.

Hello James,
Here is the link to the section about adding exclusions to MSE:
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...st&p=181018
In Vista it is Automatic (delayed start), which I believe is the default setting.
Please post back if you have further questions.
Thank You

Hello all4me123,
What is the exact wordings of the message? And which file was scanning just before the crash?
And if you need to scan the system to see if the computer is infected, use "quick scan" is enough. Full scan is used only if you need to find the orphaned items (although it do searches other active items that quick scan will also do), and it is slower than quick scan.
Anyway, we may first try a re-install of MBAM, then you can continue with the instructions Firefox given below. Please follow the instructions below, and remember to read the last point in the note:
For Windows XP:
- Click on Start and select Control Panel

Hello rodger39,
[...]i'm currently trying to get rid of this 'Malware Doctor' thing[...]Most likely it is done by the malware. If you can find another computer that can update MBAM, you may copy the database and get the updated copy to the infected one.
ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.
SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. Our database file is stored in the following locations.
- Windows XP and 2000
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
- Windows Vista and Windows 7:
- C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
If you wish to have your system checked by an expert heper, you may follow the instructions below -

Hello Michael,
Try running GMER in safe mode, and if it still crashes, skip that step. Remember those steps of the dds and gmer are not for curing the machine, but just capturing the status of the machine at the time of running those tools. So please follow what AdvancedSetup said and post what you can produce as a new topic in the malware removal forum.
Thanks.
Edit - adding instruction of posting in the other forum.

Unable to update
in Malwarebytes for Windows Support Forum
Posted
Hello Tony Indel,
See if the following steps can help to connect to the update server -
As long as it is NOT due to current live Malware preventing the update then this method may help restore the ability to run updates
After each step please try to run the Update again in the MBAM program.
STEP 01
Backup the Registry:
Modifying the Registry can create unforeseen problems, so it always wise to create a backup before doing so.
Note: if it is necessary to restore the registry, open the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe
Once you've completed backing up your Registry, please perform the following fixes until fixed or all methods have been tried
STEP 02
Disable Internet Explorer Proxy Settings and Reset TCP/IP
It is very important that these steps be carried out exactly as shown otherwise the fix will not work.
If you have any questions please ask before moving on.
STEP 03
Ping the Content Delivery Network
For Windows XP:
Click on START - RUN and type in or Copy/Paste the following and verify that you get a response -
If all the pings failed then please try running the following command -
Then copy and paste back the results on your next reply.
STEP 04
Exclude Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's Files and Folders From Other Active Security Programs:
For Windows XP:
Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well
The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products
Please post back if you have further questions.
Thank You
