  1. Many thanks both for your interests regarding my question.Do I get an email notification on a reply to my posts,If yes where do I select the choice to get email notifications Please.Only joined last night.

    Thanks.

Normally, in the upper-right corner, there's a button that says "Follow this topic" which you can click to get e-mail notifications. If you decide to turn them back off again later, just click the button again. ;)

  2. Once the 14-day trial is over, operating in free mode means that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will not be protecting your computer, and that you will only be able to run Quick Scans and Fulls Scans to remove infections after they happen. You will also get updated for free, but if you want the extra protection to continue beyond the first 14 days then that is premium.

  3. 1. What do I check to receive an email notification that I have received a response to a post?

When you are viewing a topic, in the upper-right corner there should be a button that says "Follow this topic" (click the button once to receive e-mail notifications for that topic, and click it again to turn them off).

Edit: I have been reminded that the default Malwarebytes theme for the forums puts it in the upper-left, and not in the upper-right. That's what I get for using a different theme. :P I just tested, and it is in the upper-right for me with the Malwarebytes theme. Now I'll have to consult with my sources, and see why we are confused.

    2. What do I check to allow viewers to send me a personal message?

That should be enabled by default. ;)

  4. I have come to notice, ever since the latter became an option (and still with no reference in Help), that having "Download and install program update if available" unchecked and "Notify me when a program update is ready for installation" checked serves no purpose. The juxtapostion of these items imply exclusivity. The "notify me" should be indented as it is dependent on the former, that being "automatic" but not called out as so. This could benefit also from an third option to just notify there's an update available.

I don't recall ever noticing that before. Perhaps the redundant option should at least be grayed out when "Download and install program update if available" isn't checked?

  5. Why is that ?

Surely MORE than "A line about it..." is appropriate as one has to give a reason WHY one should visit a link and it isn't plagiarism as the attribution of the source of the information is properly established.

I think his point is more along the lines of posting quotes from the articles. Malwarebytes could be hit with a DMCA takedown request if too much gets copied and pasted into a post.

  6. Pretty much any AV I can think of will work on 64-bit, and so will MBAM.

I don't know if you can get a disk from Microsoft. I've never heard of anyone doing it, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. I know most software companies will refuse to do it, but I don't know about Microsoft.

As far as a separate account, most new PC's allow you to create your own account the first time you start the computer.

  7. I take it the software comes already installed and not optional? Damn.

Yeah, pretty much all PC manufacturers are pretty bad about that. You can remove anything you don't want, and you can remove programs from the startup items that you don't need running every time you turn your computer on. Aside from the pre-installed software I have to admit that HP laptops aren't bad (bearing in mind that nothing is perfect, of course).

  8. I don't know of any AV's that consistently do well on the samples I typically come across. Well, Microsoft Security Essentials at least used to, but I haven't been running MSE in a while. I've also been getting more links than samples these days, and I just hand those off to Steven so that he can have fun with them. ;)

  9. That processor is clocked at 1.8GHz with a turbo of 2.4GHz, which isn't too bad for a low-end AMD laptop, and with the Radeon graphics it will probably use less power than an Intel based laptop with NVIDIA video, however it will use more power than one with Intel video. The screen resolution is a little odd, and but not too bad for the price.

For that price, the only real down side is the software that HP puts on it, but that shouldn't be too hard to deal with. ;)
