  1. Harassed at school, little Quaden asks his mother for a "knife" to die "https://mbcradio.tv/article/vid%C3%A9o-harcel%C3%A9-%C3%A0-l%C3%A9cole-le-petit-quaden-demande-un-couteau-%C3%A0-sa-m%C3%A8re-pour-mourir" Heartbreaking. Quaden is 9 years old and begs his mother to give him a knife so that he can hit himself in the heart. The boy with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, is harassed daily by his school friends in Brisbane, and when he leaves his home. Out of strength and very moved by the state of her son, whom she has just found after a new episode of harassment, Yarraka Bayles decides to film the little boy in tears and who says he wants to die, as you can see in the difficult video at the top of the article. His video, shared on his Facebook account, quickly went viral. It was seen millions of times on the social network alone before being taken up by several media, then shared on Twitter. The images do not only show the plight of the little boy. We can also hear her mother denounce a lack of openness and education on disability at school, as well as anti-harassment measures that do not work. As harassment in schools is increasingly exposed, Quaden's video shows the effects that daily harassment can have on the mental health of a 9-year-old child.
  2. @mountaintree16 i agree with you. A sad picture. Now, check this one on how the disputed procedure had a bearing on two victims. When Evidence Says No, but Doctors Say Yes https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2017/02/when-evidence-says-no-but-doctors-say-yes/517368/ What the patients in both stories had in common was that neither needed a stent. By dint of an inquiring mind and a smartphone, one escaped with his life intact. The greater concern is: How can a procedure so contraindicated by research be so common?

Sweden starts testing world's first central bank digital currency https://www.reuters.com/article/us-cenbank-digital-sweden/sweden-starts-testing-worlds-first-central-bank-digital-currency-idUSKBN20E26G STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Sweden’s Riksbank said on Wednesday it had begun testing an e-krona, taking the country a step closer to the creation of the world’s first central bank digital currency (CBDC). If the e-krona eventually comes into circulation it will be used to simulate everyday banking activities, such as payments, deposits and withdrawals from a digital wallet such as a mobile phone app, the Riksbank said. “The aim of the project is to show how an e-krona could be used by the general public,” the Riksbank said in a statement. byenow byenow is a command-line Windows utility for faster folder removal. "https://iobureau.com/byenow/" Deleting large folders or collection of files on Windows may take quite some time. The deletion speed depends on a number of factors but even if you have a super fast computer, you may notice that it takes minutes or even hours to delete all selected files. If you use the command line, you can delete large folders faster in Windows. If you want to speed up that even further, third-party tool byenow may be an option. The program uses multiple threads to delete the contents of a selected folder quicker and advanced users may select to use the NtDeleteFile API instead of the standard DeleteFile API to reduce the number of syscalls from three to one to speed things up further. https://www.ghacks.net/2020/02/20/byenow-is-a-command-line-tool-for-windows-to-delete-folders-faster/
  5. The Mandalorian: This Is the Way https://ascmag.com/articles/the-mandalorian Cinematographers Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS and Barry “Baz” Idoine and showrunner Jon Favreau employ new technologies to frame the Disney Plus Star Wars series. Unit photography by François Duhamel, SMPSP, and Melinda Sue Gordon, SMPSP, courtesy of Lucasfilm, Ltd. At top, the Mandalorian Bounty Hunter (played by played by Pedro Pascal) rescues the Child — popularly described as "baby Yoda." This article is an expanded version of the story that appears in our February, 2020 print magazine. A live-action Star Wars television series was George Lucas’ dream for many years, but the logistics of television production made achieving the necessary scope and scale seem inconceivable. Star Wars fans would expect exotic, picturesque locations, but it simply wasn’t plausible to take a crew to the deserts of Tunisia or the salt flats of Bolivia on a short schedule and limited budget. The creative team behind The Mandalorian has solved that problem. 6. How is it relevant to PC's, since one has to gain access to devices to update firmware Quote - Many components can be updated without the need for special privileges, leading to a very simple and powerful scenario for an attack: An attacker gains access to a device via any method, such as malware delivered via email or a malicious website, or an evil maid attack. With basic user privileges, the attacker/malware could write malicious firmware to a vulnerable component. If the component doesn’t require the firmware to be properly signed, the attacker’s code is loaded and run by the component. The attacker can then use the unique functionality and privileges of that component to further an attack.

  9. Body composting promises a sustainable way of death https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/02/body-composting-promises-sustainable-way-death SEATTLE—Death is not environmentally friendly. Cemeteries take up about 500 square kilometers in the United States. Embalming the dead consumes millions of liters of chemicals each year. And cremation takes large amounts of natural gas, producing plentiful greenhouse emissions. So why not take a cue from consumers who recycle their food waste into soil, and do the same to our mortal remains? In May 2019, Washington became the first state to legalize natural organic reduction, or body composting, as an environmentally friendly alternative to existing mortuary options. The law will take effect on 1 May, and by early 2021, Recompose, a Seattle-based company, aims to offer commercial body composting. As a first step, Lynne Carpenter-Boggs, a soil scientist at Washington State University, Pullman, and scientific adviser to Recompose, has conducted a pilot study with six donated bodies to test the process.

  13. Heart doctors 'held back stent death data' https://www.bbc.com/news/health-51539112 Doctors working on a clinical trial for treatment of heart disease held back key data, Newsnight has been told. The Excel trial tested whether stents were as effective as open heart surgery at treating patients with a heart problem called left main disease. The data suggested more people fitted with stents were dying after three years. It was eventually published - but only after treatment guidelines that partly relied on the trial had been written. These guidelines recommend both stents and heart surgery for certain patients with left main disease.
